Moving home What if I need to move home?
How do I end my tenancy? If you decide you want to leave your property, you must give the Trust four weeks notice. Please contact the Trust in order that you can complete the necessary paperwork. What if I need to You must also: Return the keys of the property to the relevant Area Office by the agreed date and time. Clear the property of all your possessions, including any rubbish. Please note that you may be charged if rubbish or possessions are left in the property. Give the Trust a forwarding address and contact number. Inform gas, water and electricity suppliers that you are leaving and on what date, otherwise you could be charged with the next tenant s bill. You should also advise us of the suppliers names for our records. If you are receiving any Benefits, don t forget to notify the Benefits Service of your move. Inform the Local Authority s council tax department of your move.
Homeswapper This is a national scheme enabling tenants to exchange with each other regardless of who their landlord is. For more information, please contact your local Area Office. Can I buy my home? Tenants of Bournville Village Trust and Bournville Almshouse Trust are not usually able to buy their homes because both organisations are charities. However, you may be able There are also some properties on the Trust where you have the Right to Acquire If you wish to clarify the position, contact your Housing Officer. Further Assistance If you have any further queries relating to any issues in this leaflet please refer to the Trust s website or contact the Housing staff at your local area office. move? to obtain help from the Homebuy Scheme to buy a different home. This is funded by Central Government. If you are interested, please contact your local Area Office for more information. Certain people, such as the secure tenants of the former St Lawrence (BVT) Housing Association or tenants of the Telford Development Corporation who transferred to the Trust may have a preserved right to buy.
You may be eligible for a financial reward when you move out of your property. However to qualify you need to have at least met the following conditions: Leave the property in a clean and tidy condition and in good decorative order. Remove all rubbish and belongings from the property, including the loft, garage, shed and gardens. move? Leave the garden in a neat and tidy condition with the lawns and hedges cut. Allow access for viewings (if applicable) once you have given us notice that you are leaving. Leave with a clear balance on your rent account. How do I get a move within the Trust? If you want to move, there are three schemes available to help: Transfer List You can apply to the Trust to be transferred to another property. We do give priority to those in exceptional circumstances, such as sudden disability, overcrowding or domestic violence. If you wish to transfer to or within Shropshire you can apply through Choose Your Home. To find out more, contact your local Area Office.
To do this you must register with the Homeswapper Scheme. Unlike a transfer you do not need to have lived in your current home for 12 months to apply for a mutual exchange unless you have a Starter tenancy with us in which case you should speak to your Housing Officer as your conditions of tenancy are different. Tenants who wish to apply for a transfer must have lived in their current homes for 12 months and must have an up to date rent account at the offer/letting stage. Mutual Exchanges Tenants have the right to exchange their homes with another tenant or tenants of another landlord. You will need the written agreement of your current landlord. This will only be withheld for a very good reason, for example, if your home is unsuitable for the person with whom you want to exchange.
How to contact us For general advice and further information contact: BVT BIRMINGHAM TELEPHONE On request, we can supply an audio CD giving all the information contained in this leaflet.
