1 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 1309 Myrtle Ave Enumclaw, WA FAX /24/2017 ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT PERMITS INFORMATION AND APPLICATION Accessory Dwelling Units are habitable living units added to, created within, or detached from a singlefamily dwelling. These units contain facilities for living, sleeping, eating, cooking and sanitation. Accessory Dwelling Units are commonly called mother-in-law apartments or ADU s. The City allows ADU s in its residential zones as long as they meet the criteria of Enumclaw Municipal Code Chapter (Accessory Dwelling Units). A copy of this Code chapter is attached. Please refer carefully to the City s ADU criteria and permitting requirements when planning your project. Application Process The pre-application form should be completed and submitted as part of the ADU process. ADU application and affidavit forms are attached. The City will charge a $350 filing fee plus public notification costs when the ADU application is submitted, and will require that the applicant provide certain information to prove that the proposed ADU meets City standards. Part of the information required by the City is a notarized and recorded affidavit by which the property owner agrees to adhere to the owner occupancy standards required by the Municipal Code. Once the ADU application is complete and the site inspection conducted, the City will post a notice on the property for 14 days regarding the proposed ADU. Based upon public comments received in response to the notice, a public hearing may be scheduled before Planning Commission. Building Permit Once the ADU permit is approved, the applicant may then apply for a Building Permit. (For more information on the Building Permit process and fees please contact the Building Department at ) The building permit fees are based on either square footage or total cost of project valuation.
