Based on his age when he was married, his date of birth would be August 9, I do not know his correct date of birth. Andrew died August 15, 1923 in Saxon, Raleigh County, West Virginia. I have not learned the names of Andrew s parents. Andrew was left an orphan at the age of eighteen months. From the above census records, we learn the names of the two uncles of Andrew were Andrew and James. Margaret was his aunt. Andrew came to live with his uncles and aunt after the 1850 census was taken. After the death of his uncles, he was thrown out into the world on his own resources and shaped his own career. Andrew traveled over the country doing various kinds of work. He worked on farms, railroad grades, at brickyard and lime kilns, and on steamboats. He was employed by traveling with a circus at one point in his life. Andrew attended school whenever he had the opportunity until he became qualified to teach. He taught schools fourteen sessions. He was school superintendent in Raleigh County for one term. Eventually he became a farmer, buying and selling produce. He was elected to the state legislature from Raleigh County in Andrew married Clementine "Clem" Trump on August 16, 1882, in Raleigh County, West Virginia. Clementine was the daughter of William Trump and Sarah Cozart. She was born February 26, 1865, in Raleigh County, West Virginia, and died September 14, 1942, in Raleigh County, West Virginia.

A. J. Manning, former member of the West Virginia house of delegates and superintendent of county schools in Raleigh county, died last Wednesday night at his home at Saxon, this county, after a long illness. His age was 72 years and his death, the immediate cause of which was leakage of the heart with other complications, was not unexpected by his friends who were acquainted with his condition. Mr. Manning came to Raleigh County when quite a young man, married and lived the greater part of his life within the confines of the county. It was 43 years ago that he married Miss Clementine Trump who, with 12 children survives him. The children are Lawrence, of Saxon; Hubbard, of Mt. Hope; Augustus, of Glen Rogers; Winfred, of Saxon; Oley and Fred, unmarried and living at home; Mrs. Bertha Honaker, of Saxon; Mrs. Lottie Sizemore, of McGraws; Mrs. Clara Lucas, of Glen Daniel; Mrs. Ollie Daniel, of Glen Daniels; Mrs. Maude Snuffer, of Lester; and Mrs. Ethel Snuffer, of Bolt. Mr. Manning was one of the older type of citizens and had served his county as superintendent of county schools a number of years ago, having been 2
3 elected on the Republican ticket. Then in 1920 he was nominated by the same party for House of Delegates and elected, serving his constituents at Charleston in the legislature of He was a farmer and was respected by all of his neighbors and friends, having also taught school for a number of years prior to his election as school superintendent. He came to Raleigh County from Virginia, having been born in Carroll county, in the Old Dominion. It was a short time after his arrival here that he married Miss Trump, a native of the county. He had many friends in addition to his large family who regret to learn of his death. Funeral services will be held this afternoon from his home and the remains will be laid to rest in the cemetery on the old home place. Hester died January 10, 2005, in Beckley, Raleigh County. She is buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Hester Manning Hester Manning, 90, of Beckley, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at her residence. Born on Sept. 29, 1914, at Herndon, W.Va., she was one of 14 children born to the late John and Georgia Lusk. Mrs. Manning, after graduating from Herndon High School and Concord College, began her career as a school teacher in Wyoming County. She retired from the Raleigh County School System in June 1975, where she had taught for many years. Mrs. Manning was a long time resident of Fairdale, W.Va., and a member of the Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oley J. Manning in September 1957; a sister, Nola Brooks of Lynco; and her brothers, Amos Lusk of Sophia, Aven Lusk of Gallipolis, Ohio, Harold Lusk of Henderson, N.C., and Burless Lusk of Corinne. Survivors include her sisters, Lebern "Til" and Garnet Lusk, both of Beckley, Melda Bridges of Houma, La., Ilma Murray of Davison, Mich., and Geva Byrd of San Jose, Calif.; her brothers, Mason Lusk of Centerville, Va., Morris Lusk of Itmann and Harry Lusk of Flint, Mich. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Gordon 4
5 Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
