He went to the South African War with the 7th Contingent, and when he returned he joined the Permanent Artillery, serving at Wellington until 1904, when he joined the Tramways Department. In 1925 he entered the Government service, and was at Parliament Buildings for some 11

12 years as personal messenger to the then Speaker Sir Charles Statham. Later he was stationed at Government Buildings, and since the outbreak of war in September had been at Military Headquarters, Buckle Street. In his young days Mr Munn was a keen footballer and played for the Oriental Club's Wednesday team. He was one of the first residents of Melrose and was instrumental in reforming the Melrose Football Club. He always took a keen interest in his comrades of the South African War, and was a prominent member of the executive committee of the Wellington South African War Veterans' Association. He was a member of the Druids Lodge for many years and was a Past Arch Druid. Mr Munn married Miss Agnes Euphemia Flint, who is also a descendant of a pioneer Wellington family, and there are five children. Captain P Hughes, master of the Cabarfeidh, furnished the following particulars to his Auckland agents, Messrs Stone Brothers "This morning Mrs Munn's son and one of the ordinary seamen were putting empty water casks on shore to get water, Munn lost his hold and fell between the ship and the wharf, and a water cask fell on top of him. I had him carried into the cabin and sent for a doctor. The doctor did not think there was anything serious the matter with him he left, and came to see Munn again at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and then said that Munn was much better. The poor boy himself said he felt better. Towards 9 o'clock he commenced to get worse, the doctor came and prescribed for him again, and at 10 o'clock the boy died. "Captain Hughes concluded by expressing deep regret at the sad occurrence, and stated that he would telegraph to Mrs Munn to-day. Immediately upon receipt of the sad news at Messrs Stone Bros., Captain Norris proceeded to North Shore to break the news to Mrs Munn.
