2 SCOR Annual Meetings 9.0 SCOR-RELATED MEETINGS Executive Committee Meeting Bergen, Norway The SCOR meeting will precede the science conference in Bergen entitled Polar Dynamics: Monitoring, Understanding, and Prediction (see on August General Meeting SCOR 50 th Anniversary Woods Hole, USA Plans for the SCOR 50 th Anniversary are actively under development and the program will be reviewed in Bergen Executive Committee Meeting No location has been set for the 2009 SCOR Executive Committee meeting yet, although we do have standing offers from Monaco (SCOR met there last in 1961) and China (Beijing) (SCOR met there last in 1993). Other countries in good financial standing in which SCOR has never met or has not met since the 1980s include Belgium, China-Taipei, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Israel, Mexico, Pakistan, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey. Considerations for determining the locations of annual SCOR meetings are based on 1. Receiving an invitation from a National SCOR Committee. SCOR meetings can be an opportunity for national SCOR committees to meet with the SCOR Executive Committee and for the National Committee to acquaint their national oceanographic community with SCOR and its activities. 2. Confidence that the national SCOR committee will provide the necessary logistical support and financially reasonable arrangements. 3. Movement of the annual meeting to different parts of the world to bring it closer to different sets of member nations, on some kind of rotating basis. The SCOR Executive Committee welcomes invitations from National Committees for SCOR meetings in 2009 and The following list shows where and when all past annual SCOR meetings were held.
