Membership Total 2012 membership was 1, Urban Affairs Forums The TSA Urban Affairs Forum Series continued this year, with invited guests leading discussion on current architectural and urban events and themes of interest to our membership. Guide Map # 1 Toronto Architecture TSA Executive Member, Kevin McIntosh continues to lead the distribution of the first guide map. It is currently available for purchase from our website and at the following retailers: SWPE Books on Design Design Exchange (D/X) Harbourfront Centre Gift Shop Centre for Canadian Architecture in Montreal Work on updating Guide Map #1 to include projects completed after 2003 began in The Guide Map committee, consisting of Heather Dubbeldam, Richard Witt, Phil Goodfellow, and Jessie Huang, anticipates that the new edition will be available in Guide Map # 2 Open Spaces In 2011, it became apparent that a second map was needed to illustrate the category of open spaces, public infrastructure, and other civic gestures. The Guide Map committee will commence work on Guide Map #2 once the reprinting of the first guide map is complete. 5. Ideas Competition page 2

3 The TSA Executive has discussed initiating a TSA ideas competition, in place of the poster competition. The Executive is interested in partnering with other organizations to help facilitate an ideas competition. Workshop Architecture has initiated an ideas competition for a hydro corridor in Toronto which the TSA is sponsoring and helping to promote. 6. OAA Society Visit OAA President Sheena Sharp and OAA Executive Director Kristie Doyle visited the TSA on September 24 th to provide members with a brief overview of OAA activities, especially with regards to procurement in the architectural profession. President Sharp reviewed current advocacy initiatives underway with the Council, ongoing work with the Public Client groups including the Ontario Government and Infrastructure Ontario, industry collaboration with procurement associations and officials, the importance of Standard documents and the success of recent OAA member Roundtable sessions. 7. Year-End Bash The TSA hosted its annual Year End Bash to recognize a 'great space in Toronto' at the Mattamy Athletic Centre TSA members and guests attended the event and 90+ members participated in the building tours given by architects from BBB, Turner Fleischer and ERA. Toronto Architecture Tours Initial work on the Toronto Architecture Tours (TAT), such as hiring staff, training guides, setting up online registration, and developing the routes and scripts completed in This year the TSA and the Tour Coordinator, Marta O Brien, focused its efforts on continuing to offer and promote the three tours ( Art and Performance, Culture and Campus and Towers ). TAT continues to be the only architecture tours in Toronto offered on a regularly scheduled basis. TAT did not participate in Jane s Walk or Doors Open this year as our participation last year generated more cost than benefit. Regularly scheduled and on demand group tours began in early May. Approximately 250 people participated in TAT this year. TAT received an OAA Special Project Funding of $5,000 to continue providing these tours. 9. Film Series The TSA has partnered with Hot Docs to present Oppositions: Architecture on Film, a monthly series offering insights into the role of design in the built environment. One evening page 3

4 each month, pairings of films which examine the same issue from opposing perspectives, are shown. Each screening will be followed by a brief discussion from directors, practitioners, academics or activists. The four preliminary showings are scheduled to take place on January 24, February 21, March 14 and March Michel Rojkind Lecture The TSA organized a lecture by Michel Rojkind, rojkind arquitectos Mexico City on June 6 at the Daniels Faculty of Landscape, Architecture and Design at the University of Toronto. The lecture was well-attended. 11. RULA Maps The TSA helped Ryerson University s Department of Architectural Science to obtain content for its RULA Maps, a mobile application which uses GPS to showcase the architectural and historical relevance of buildings, including drawings and video when the user is near. 12. Website and Logo The TSA is in the midst of a major redesign of its website and logo. The new website will better address the needs of our membership, including mobile viewing, announcements, calendar feeds, as well as a user-only section. It will also encourage more input from the TSA membership with regards to local events, participation in TSA initiatives, and feedback. It is anticipated the new website will go live in Spring Building Tours The initiative to host building tours by architects for architects was launched in Building tours were guided by architects responsible for the building s design and offered exclusively to TSA members on a ticketed basis. The tours are followed by pub nights where members conversed further with the design team members. This year no tours were offered. 14. Advocacy The TSA presented a document outlining its advocacy principles in The advocacy committee considered various proactive and reactive measures with regards to transit in Toronto this year and will continue in TSA s Sponsorship This year the TSA expanded the presence of architecture in the City by sponsoring the following: AWARDS: Heritage Toronto Awards SCHOLARSHIPS: TSA University of Toronto Scholarship Ryerson University Scholarship EVENTS: page 4
