Pepin (Ferdinand-1) was born on 31 May 1858 in Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota. He died on 20 Oct 1944 at the age of 86 in Seattle, WA. Joseph G. Pepin and Rose Selma Huot were married on 22 Jan 1889 in St-Pierre Catholic Church, Gentilly, Minnesota. Notes by Larry Corney: They farmed and raised a family near Gentilly Minnesota. A town and post office in Minnesota were named after Huots, Louisville and Huot. Early this century, lured by the generous Canadian Homestead Act, most of the Huot's and the Pepin family moved to Saskatchewan. Joseph G. and family went first to Marselin, then to Duck Lake. In both places they operated a small hotel and restaurant used mainly by railroaders. I don't think they did too badly until the late twenties when the depression hit. The Huot's homesteaded mostly around Debden Saskatchewan where they farmed (there were many families). I spent quite a bit of my summers with them. In the early thirties or late twenties the Pepin's moved to Seattle where Joseph Pepin had relatives, a few years later the Huot's moved back to Quebec around Val d'or. My uncle Alfred and my mother were the only Pepin's who would agree that they had some Indian ancestors. In those days if you were a good Christian you were reasonably kind to Indians and Metis but felt they were not your equal and should keep to themselves. Rose Selma Huot, daughter of Louis Huot and Marie-Henrietta Patnaude, was born on 28 Apr 1871 in Minnesota. She died in 1951 at the age of 80. The Huot's, and possibly the Pepin's, came from Quebec. Some settled in New York, some around Chicago, and some in Rochester Minnesota. The Huot's were a well to do family and were very nice. He joined the Canadian Over-seas expeditionary force on November 11, 1916 and was sent over-seas May, William was wounded in France in August, He was medically discharged on March 24, William's discharge papers state he was being discharged for Mental Instability. Several reports state that William had a history of auditory hallucinations and that he had a psychopathic heredity, on parental side. During his 3 years in the services, William spent at least 6 months in detention, mainly for disobeying orders. +14 v. It would appear that he suffered from a similar mental condition as his brother William. My dad has told me that Tony had uncontrollable rages. When I met Tony he was a very gentle and kind man.
