While celebrating and reinterpreting the rich traditions of the chandelier, Swarovski Crystal Palace has broken barriers, played with the rules and opened a new chapter in the history of lighting, art and design.

5 GLACIARIUM COLLECTION Patrik Fredrikson and Ian Stallard began working together in 1995 and are recognized today as leading exponents of avant-garde design. Past collaborations with Swarovski include Eden, an immersive space evocative of a fantastical, archaic forest at Kristallwelten in Austria; Prologue, a huge disk of crystals set in a heavy steel structure that, when lit, takes on the appearance of a full moon, brought down to earth; and the Armory and Space Flower jewelry collections for Atelier Swarovski. The Glaciarium collection is inspired by Fredrikson Stallard s knowledge of Swarovski s complex crystal production techniques and the behavior of the material in its raw state. Fredrikson Stallard realized that the eccentric forms of their bespoke components would best be set off in a rigorously geometrical matrix: two of the chandeliers are strictly linear, the other perfectly circular. This sense of contrast is heightened by the use of industrial steel to form the housing for the lights. The mounting is designed so that, as in a traditional chandelier, the crystal components can face different ways, and also shiver and shimmer with a passing breeze or movement, bringing life to the play of refraction. Superline and Voltaire could be used as accent pieces or to light an irregular modern space while Helios, whose title refers to the sun, is a monumental ring of light. 8 GLITTERBOX HORIZONTAL PENDANT GEORG BALDELE Working on the cusp of design, art and craft, London-based Austrian designer Georg Baldele creates exquisite and intricate sculptural installations and design objects with his application of hand-working techniques to industrial materials. He has exhibited work at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Design Museum, and illuminated exhibitions for the Saatchi Gallery and the Hermès store in London as well as other leading institutions in Milan, Tokyo and New York. The Glitterbox range developed with Swarovski is an inventive exploration of the prismatic possibilities of crystal. 9 LIGHT SOCK DILLER SCOFIDIO + RENFRO New York-based Diller Scofidio + Renfro is an interdisciplinary studio that fuses architecture with visual and performing arts. Its work encompasses architectural and urban commissions, temporary and permanent site-specific installations, multimedia theatre, electronic media and print work. Commissions include MoMA, the Whitney Museum and LACMA. A smart and chic subversion of the chandelier s classical branch and pendant form, Light Sock is comprised of a mesh bag filled with Swarovski crystals. A single light source buried within intensifies the crystal s natural light prisms, and Light Sock expands to take on the shape of its content. 10 MINI VOYAGE YVES BÉHAR Yves Béhar is the founder of Fuseproject, an integrated design firm dedicated to the development of the emotional experience of brands through story-telling. The diverse experience and media practiced by the Fuseproject design team span products, environments, graphics, packaging, apparel and strategy. Mini Voyage is a scaled-down rendition of an original chandelier conceived by Yves Béhar for Swarovski Crystal Palace. The original, Voyage, was a 450 cm / 177" structure created for New York s JFK airport. No less impressive in effect, Mini Voyage retains he design qualities of the original but is approximately 200 cm / 79" in length and contains up to 5,000 Swarovski crystals, lit internally by white LEDs.
