The records state Elias was an Elder in the Goshen Presbyterian Church, LaGrange, Ky. and that he appears to be son of John and Margaret Barrick Huffman. (from the book HISTORY & FAMILIES OLDHAM COUNTY, KENTUCKY by OLDHAM COUNTY Historical Society)...the story of the first Presbyterian Church in Goshen whose origins go back 150 years...one of the earliest Presbyterian churches in the state of KENTUCKY, organized in first place of meeting was a community center...then a log structure which burned in new bldg. built that same year sold at auction in the 1890's a chapel was established at the foot of Goshen Lane...at first it was called West Goshen Presbyterian Church...later it was renamed Rule Memorial Chapel in honor of its founder, the Rev. John Rule. It was also called "The Bottom Church". In 1956 the church closed. There is nothing left of this chapel now except the trees and flowers that once surrounded it. Church of LaGrange. No dates. I have also learned that the Bible was found in the old log cabin where 3 of Elias's grandchildren lived in It is noted the cabin was on the left of Old River Rd leaving Louisville and crossing into Oldham Co line. I am anxious to find more info on Elias and his wife Mary Adams. It was note that Elias's parents were John and Margaret Barrick Huffman. Any info that anyone has on this Huffman lineage would be more than appreciated. She returned to Belton and taught school there for a while. She cared for her sister "Bess" until her death with tuberculosis. Antonia was sent to Asheville, NC for a period of time to recoup from the care of her sister and to be cared for herself to make sure she had not contracted the disease. After her marriage and birth of her two daughters her family moved to Anderson. She was very active at St John's Methodist Church. After the girls were in high school and college they moved back to "Fleetwood" her fathers home place. She was a house wife, active in Latimer Mem. Meth. Notes for SUSAN GWYNNE HUFFMAN: Susan Huffman graduated Girls High, Anderson, SC, 1936 and Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC After college she worked with the Dept. of Social Services in Anderson Co, SC and Greenville Co, SC until her retirement in She was active with Methodist Women, sang in choir, assistant organist and taught Sunday School at Latimer Memorial Methodist Church, Belton, SC. She is a member of the United Daughters of Confederacy, served as an officer with Belton Cemetery foundation, Anderson Women's Club, volunteered work for 20 years one day a week in the Meals On Wheels office in Anderson, just to name a few of her activities. She traveled the world to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and every state in the continental USA. Susan health became a concern to her and her family. It was 2003 that she decided to move from her home in Belton to an assisted living home in Anderson, SC. Notes for TOLLIVER WRIGHT PRUITT, JR: T W Pruitt, Jr. was the oldest of the three sons of his parents T W, Sr. and Una Shaw Pruitt. His father died when he was about 8 years old. His mother taught school. Times were hard and the boys were sent to Berry School in Rome, Ga for there education. T W joined the Army and served in WW II. After the war he was a retail business man in Belton and Williamston until his early retirement in 1980.I was active civic organizations and a City of Belton Alderman until cancer took his life in Jan. of ii. Ch., Belton, SC; b. 12 Apr 1911, Millport, Ala. Notes for ANTONIA BYRD HUFFMAN: Antonia Byrd Huffman graduated Belton high School, Belton, SC and Winthrop College, Rock hill, SC. She 6

7 worked with the Red Cross, and other work before her marriage. Her family moved to Millport, Ala after her husbands retirement from the Navy where he had farm land. She taught in the schools there for several years. They moved to St Simons Is, Ga where she taught school and Owen worked at Glenco Navy Air Base. They retired and moved back to Millport. Byrd had an art studio added to the home place on Black St. and taught painting classes to the locals in the small town. Some of her paintings were purchased and hung in several businesses and she was hired to do a Mural for a bank over in Columbus, Miss. Her most famous painting to the family was that of "Fleetwood", the old Smith home place in Belton, SC. Her husbands health and her health began to fail before it was completed. The painting of the house is just as her children and her sisters children remember it. Her Neice Connie encouraged her and gave her photos to start the painting. Connie has it in her home in Williamston, SC. Byrd is in an assisted living home in Fayette, Ala. 8. EFFIE 4 HUFFMAN (JOHN FRANCIS 3, ELIAS 2, JOHN 1 ) was born 10 Jan 1873 in Louisville, KY, and died 02 Dec 1952 in Highland Park, NJ. She married GUY WINLOCK VANARSDALE. Notes for HENRY BELL HUFFMAN: 1930 US Fed Census list Precilla Huffman age 84 living with Henry and Josephine Huffman. The family farms and lives in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Ky. Notes 01/20/2009 sent by Martha Easter of Daytona Beach, Fla. James Emmett Huffman died 1945 and is burried in Brownsboro Cemetery. 7

8 His father and mother, Henry Bell and Josephine Stonestreet Huffman died in Athens Alabama and are burried in the Athens Cemetery in Limestone County. Henry Bell died 1951 and Josie died They are in lot 1237 right next to my grandparents, R B Stonestreet and Mary Rose Huffman. R. B.'s parents were James Andrew and Josephine Ray Stonestreet. I believe the parents of Josie Stonestreet gave my Grandfather an opportunity to go to school to learn to read and write in exchange for chores. He had been left a ward of his uncle who did not give him that opportunity. In old age Uncle Henry and Aunt Josie fell on hard times and my grandfather paid his dept to Josie's mother by moving them to Alabama and providing a home for them.
