Namely, the thesis entitled The Role of Urban Planning in the Process of Brownfield Regeneration was announced as the best PhD dissertation defended at the University of Belgrade in the school year 2012/2013. I continued my professional specialization as a post-doc at the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Development of ETH Zurich, where I started the research as a grant holder of the Swiss Governance Excellence Scholarship. Currently, I am involved as a researcher in other scientific projects conducted under the affiliation of ETH Zurich and engaged as lecturer in the course European Aspects of Spatial Development, within the ETH Master Studies Programme Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems. My scientific and professional research is focused on urban planning, urban research methodology, collaborative planning approaches, soft governance, brownfield regeneration and transnational urban policies. Devoted to exploring major development trends, I have participated in several international projects on various topics: During my PhD studies, as an academic guest at ETH Zurich, I was conducting the research on informal planning procedures for complex spatial problems, based on Swiss case studies; At the same time, I participated in the EU INTERREG IVB project CODE 24 Corridor Development: Rotterdam-Genoa ( ) under the affiliation of ETH Zurich; As an independent consultant, I was engaged in the project BROWNINFO: Towards the Methodological Framework for Brownfields Reuse ( ), coordinated by the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Banja Luka, Republic of Srpska. The project was awarded the second prize from the Serbian Town Planners Association at the 24 th International Urban Planning Exhibition in the category Research and Studies in the Field of Spatial and Urban Planning; In 2014, as an expert committee member, I evaluated 33 proposals submitted by municipal authorities in Serbia under the Brownfield Revitalisation project call, funded by NALED (National Alliance for Local Economic Development), a Serbian NGO, in cooperation with USAID; I was the coordinator of the CODE Athens: Rail and City Development in Athens project ( ), directed towards promoting the international academic collaboration and initiated by

2 urban and spatial planning departments of ETH Zurich, the National Technical University of Athens (NTU Athens) and the University of Patras; and, I am currently engaged as a coordinator of the project on European territorial cohesion entitled Spatial and Transport Development along the European Corridors: An Example of the Corridor 22, Hamburg Athens ( ), funded by the ARL (German Academy for Spatial Research and Planning). As author of the monograph Brownfield Regeneration in the Danube Macro-Region: Institutional Dynamics (2014), I provided a comparative analysis on the institutional response to complex spatial challenge of brownfield regeneration, observed from a macro-regional perspective of the Danube region countries: Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Serbia. I also co-edited the book Ten Years of UPATs: Reflections and Results (2015), jointly published by ETH and ISOCARP, dedicated to elucidating both the concept and practical examples of UPAT a collaborative expert platform directed towards achieving and maintaining sustainable places through the multi-stakeholder cooperation. Currently, I edit the publication Rail and City Development in Athens (to be published in autumn 2016), which explores the possibilities for integrated infrastructure and spatial development in the Greek capital, jointly published by three universities (ETH Zurich, NTU Athens and University of Patras) and funded by the Albert Speer Foundation. In addition to this, the results of my research have been published in almost fifty peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings, while I participated in a number of international symposia, scientific and planning practice-oriented workshops and round tables. I am a peer-review board member of two international journals Journal of US-China Public Administration and Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture, while I am frequently engaged as a reviewer of conference papers and moderator of various conference sessions and workshops. In ISOCARP 2015 congress I was assigned the role of co-rapporteur of the Amsterdam workshop on How to build the city in a cooperative way?. During past years, I have been actively involved in organising three international symposia and a students workshop, all under the affiliation of ETH Zurich. I am an active member of AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning) Young Academics, Serbian Chamber of Engineers and Belgrade Association of Architects, and associate member of NALED. In terms of institutional responsibilities, I am a deputy of the post-doc staff representative within the board of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, ETH Zurich, and was engaged in several duties at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade most importantly, as a secretary of the Master Studies Programme Integral Urbanism, as a member of the Accreditation Committee for the evaluation of all the study programmes and as a member of the working group for the improvement of business capacities of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. I have been actively engaged as a lecturer at the academic institutions of Serbia and, and as a member of supervising committees in a number of PhD dissertations, MAS (Master of Advanced Studies) and Master s theses being conducted at European universities (ETH Zurich, UPC Barcelona). 3 STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT Keeping in mind the inspiring environment of ISOCARP as a leading expert community in the field of urban development and spatial planning, I am genuinely interested in participating in the ISOCARP Awards, Communication and Marketing Programme activities and fully motivated to disseminate my own skills and knowledge as a small step towards improving the programme s future features. ISOCARP Awards are one of the most prestigious prizes related to the planning domain, and, thus, the jury criteria should rely on the excellence in planning, while the jury members should be carefully selected according to their own competences and its compliance to specific awards. Hence, the following actions are suggested: Participating in the Awards Programme requires a complex array of competences, which can be grouped according to the experiences in evaluating: 1) planning practice-oriented studies and projects, 2) studies referring to the current planning debates (in both planning theory and practice), and 3) students proposals. Hence, the role of the Awards Committee Chair is to carefully select its members, i.e. in accordance to specific knowledge and skills aligned to each particular award, i.e. 1) Excellence Award, 2) Gerd Albers Award, and 3) Students Award. In close cooperation with the Awards Committee members, the jury criteria should be reassessed, improved and clarified where necessary, sticking to the general criteria of: 1) focusing on the cutting edge issues relevant to the planning profession (for Excellence Award), 2) relevance of the book/article topic for broadening the context of major urban planning theory and practice debates (for Gerd Albers Award), and 3) highlighting the innovative aspect of the work (for Students Award). In order to increase the interest for submitting the proposals for various awards, the formal requirements (i.e. participation fees) should be reassessed in close coordination with ExCo members. This particularly relates to the Students Awards which can be free of charge for all young planners. As we live in the era of increasing communication through a wide variety of different media, it is of utmost importance to constantly keep both the ISOCARP members and the planning professionals outside the Society informed about new ISOCARP activities. Several steps can be taken in this regard: There is a need for various announcements through the online media (website, newsletters and reports on activities), as well as through the social media, as they gain the importance in the context of a rapid exchange of information. Furthermore, affected by the trend of globalisation and network society, ISOCARP has to keep the tradition of announcement the partner-endorsed activities through its online media and, more importantly, to increase its own visibility though the media-related activities of other partner organisations. In practical terms, the previously explained vision has to be elaborated in the form of the Communication Strategy, determining precise schedule and resources available for any particular activity. This is to be done in close cooperation with the ExCO members, while I am ready to monitor its implementation.

4 Closely related to the communication activities aimed at raising the visibility of various ISOCARP activities is the development of a proactive Marketing Strategy. The promotion of the Society within the international planning community includes the following: As the work and research scope of professional organisations are of particular importance for the representatives of academia, there is a strong need to connect more closely the arena of professional planners with those from academic sector. This can be done through the promotion of ISOCARP as a leading professional organisation at the prestigious academic institutions worldwide; in practical terms, this can be operationalised through: thematic conferences with expected contributions from both planning practice and academic domains, joint publications, joint students workshops including also the young planners as future planning professionals, etc. The final aim of such a collaborative approach is raising the number of ISOCARP members mainly originating from academic sector. ISOCARP can enhance its visibility through presenting its activities and the newest publications at various conferences, i.e. within their promo sessions. There is a need to present the activities and contributions of the ISOCARP annual congress in some of the internationally recognised journals (e.g. disp The Planning Review, the journal of NSL Network, City and Landscape, ETH Zurich). In order to pursue the set out activities, together with preparation of annual Award, Communication and Marketing Plan, Statement of Activities and Progress Reports, I confirm to rely on my personal competences, network and institutional capacity to its full potential as well as to coordinate my duties with other relevant ISOCARP representatives.
