2 Club Meeting - June 27, 2014 This date was a fellowship meeting with a very special election Meeting statistics Attendance: 29 Rotarians 74% 1 Visiting Rotarians 2 Visiting Rotaractors 4 Guests In absence of Pres. Please confirm attendance with Chester Chester Hinkson elected President for With the sudden transfer of our PE Gloria to Grenada the Club had to elect a new President for PP Tim outlined to the members present the circumstances and decisions to be made surrounding PE Gloria s inability to serve as President for Unfortunately Vice President Elect, Past President Frank s work commitments do not allow him to take up the position of President effective July 1, This required, according to the clubs bylaws that the President Selection Committee identified post-haste a new President. That candidate was then in recognition of our traditions duly elected at the regular lunch meeting that Friday June 27, In what appeared to be a mere formality Rot. Chester was unanimously confirmed as the President Elect for the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia. Chester comes with many years of Rotary experience and served the club previously in several positions as a Club Director. In order to fulfill all RI requirements a mini PETS will be scheduled for July This will also be an opportunity for Secretary Elect Timothy James and President Elect for the Rotary Club of Gros Islet as well as other Rotarians to learn more about Rotary and its programs and guidelines. IFRM appointment for PP Malcolm The IFRM (International Fellowship of Rotarian Musicians) Board which met in Australia in June an appointed our very own PP Malcolm Charles as Vice Chairperson responsible for the Caribbean Region spanning Jamaica, Bahamas through the Eastern Caribbean to Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname. After PP Malcolm accepted the position the appointment became effective July 1st, This is in essence a 'policy' role, bringing Rotarian Musicians together under the common humanitarian banner of 'Service above Self-Though Music'. This represents another first' for Saint Lucia and of course our Rotary Calabashers, who celebrate the 10th Anniversary this month! Congratulations PP Malcom

3 Rotary Club of Gros Islet Handing Over Ceremony After the untimely passing of Pres. Marcelline Chitolie the Rotary Club of Gros Islet held it s handing over during a regular lunch meeting. Acting President Jonathan started the proceedings with a moment of silence in Memory of Pres. Marcelline. Before the new board was installed the club recognized several individuals with Paul Harris Fellowships. PP Lisle briefly outlined why Pres. Marcelline Chitolie, Paterson Abraham, PP Dr. Jenny Cenac, PP Brad Paul, PP Lisle Chase, PP Konrad Wagner, PDG Stephen Schlueter were made Paul Harris Fellows. He used the opportunity to talk about the Rotary Foundation and its function within Rotary International. In recognition of the recent loss the handing over ceremony was brief and Acting President Jonathan decided against a lengthy report on the achievements of the club over the last year under Pres. Marcelline. PP Marcelline will be honoured in the appropriate manner in the circle of her immediate family. President Judy Deterville in her 2. term as President and the new Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Gros Islet Rotary Club of Saint Lucia South Handing Over Ceremony In a casual cocktail party style ceremony the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia South confirmed it s new Board of Directors for Outgoing Pres. Dr. Aleric Soanes handed over the leadership of the club to Pres. Marguerite Peter. The club continues to struggle with low membership numbers and needs all our assistance. They meet every Tuesday a pm at the NSDC facilities in Vieux Fort, very close to the Windward and Leeward Brewery and Spartan University. 4 Short presentations at the meeting Together Rot. Pedro, PP Charles is one of our most regular attendees at the Rotary International Convention. This year was no different and PP Charles and Rot Pedro travelled all the way to Sidney, Australia to represent the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia at the global gathering. Charles always makes it his responsibility to bring back the Rotary International theme banner for the new Rotary year. Here he is presenting the Convention and Theme Banners to newly confirmed PE Chester Rot. Pedro also always remembers the club and fellow Rotarians at home, when attending the Rotary International Convention. He has made it his responsibility to bring back a price for the weekly raffle to benefit the Club Account. This time it was a beautifully packaged Traditional Rum and Fruit Cake. Judging by the weight of the container he must have exceeded his baggage weight limit on the flight. The lucky raffle winner was Rot. Birgitta. Rot. Birgitta also presented a club banner from The Rotary Club of Stockholm, Sweden It was sent to the club by PP Sten Andersson who had attended some of our club meetings a few weeks ago while vacationing in Saint Lucia.
