On 5 October 1831, Wiley bought 56 acres of land from William Carmack in District #5 of Obion County, TN and continued to live there until his death in Ref. 1 On 2 October 1843, after Wiley s death in 1842, Sanford Bramlett was appointed guardian of Wiley s 5 minor children. It appears that Wiley s wife predeceased him. The court records show: "Sanford Bramlett was appointed guardian of the heirs of Wiley Cathey, decd who are as follows: John Sanford Cathey, George Cathey, James W. Cathey, William M. Tomlinson s wife appears to be the Laney Armstrong, daughter of Eleanor Honer Cathey (RN=9686) and her first husband.
