2 Message from the President Dear Friends, We celebrated the 7th Annual Joedance Film Festival. For our 2016 festival we again added our tented area and hosted over 400 patrons over two nights. Our film screenings doubled and we continue to sell out our venue. With your help, our 2016 accomplishments included: A donation of $25,000 to Levine Children s Hospital Funded a clinical trial for recurring sarcomas, including osteosarcoma Established the Joedance Cancer Fund at Carolina HealthCare Foundation Created the paid Joedance Internship Program at Levine Children s Hospital and the Pediatric Cancer Research Laboratory at Levine Cancer Institute II. Participated in Charlotte Checkers Hockey Fights Cancer four years and running Celebrated our fourth year of offering Spa Days at Levine Children s Hospital with our partner Modern Salon and Spa. This year we fulfilled three of Joe s wishes: the Joedance Cancer Fund, Joedance Internship and funded a clinical trial for recurring sarcomas. Every year we remain grateful for your support so that every child is offered more effective treatments for rare pediatric cancers at Levine Children s Hospital. 3 Mission Statement Joedance Film Festival raises funds and awareness of rare pediatric cancers, specifically sarcomas, blastomas and brain tumors, for research and clinical trials at Levine Children s Hospital. Joedance, held annually, is committed to screen films of Charlotte, North Carolina film producers, writers and directors. Joedance was founded July 6, 2010 in memory of Joe Restaino who passed away after a four-year battle with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the age of 20. Joe s love of movies inspired the first Joedance Film Festival, held August 6 and 7, It is now held annually on the first weekend of August in the courtyard of the 10th Street Townhomes in Charlotte s Historic Fourth Ward.
