2 photo: Lucian Ilica Hundertwasserhaus Kegelgasse Vienna The Hundertwasserhaus is an apartment complex in Vienna,, designed by n artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser It was built between 1983 and 1986 by architects Joseph Krawina and Peter Pelikan Hundertwasser was not paid, stating that it was worth it, to prevent something ugly from being erected The house features a very organic design, with its uneven floors and plentiful flora Its roof is covered in grass and trees are grown from within, their limbs extending from the windows There are 52 apartments, four offices, 16 private terraces and three communal terraces, and a total of 250 trees and bushes There are also artificial trees; the columns that can be seen reminded Hundertwasser of trees The windows and mosaic tiles are laid out not in a grid, but in a more playful organic way, with crooked angles Project is not public! 4 Wiener Postsparkasse Georg-Coch-Platz Vienna Representing 's first move away from Art Nouveau and Neoclassicism, the Wiener Postsparkasse (n Postal Savings Bank) is regarded as an important early work of modern architecture The building occupies an entire city block, next to the Ringstrasse boulevard The bank's façade obviously alludes to classicism Wagner's key idea was to celebrate modern materials by developing new forms The entire façade is covered with square marble plates These are attached to the main structure by aluminum rivets or bolts, forming a pattern Inside, the main hall is designed like an atrium, with a large glass skylight allowing natural light to enter the heart of the building at all times Michiel_van_Loon Monday - Friday: / Thursday:

7 Stoclet Palace Avenue de Tervueren Brussels Belgium The Stoclet Palace was commissioned by Adolphe Stoclet ( ), a wealthy industrialist and avid art collector He chose 35 year old n architect Josef Hoffmann ( ), a founder-member of a radical group of designers and artists who called themselves the Vienna 'Sezession', established in 1897 Hoffman abandoned the fashions and styles that had come before and produced a building of true modernity; an asymmetrical compilation of rectangular blocks, underlined by exaggerated lines and corners The Stoclet Palace was the first residential project for the Wiener Werkstatte (Vienna Workshops), co-founded by Hoffman in 1903 Josef Hoffman as his colleagues designed every aspect of the mansion, down to the door handles and light fittings The interior is as spartan as the exterior, with upright geometric furniture and an avoidance of clutter This was a fashionably avant-garde approach, presenting a 'reformed interior' where functions dictates style 1911 Main designer, Artist Josef Hoffmann Gustav Klimt Nazar 7

8 Pavilion Karlsplatz Vienna Karlsplatz Stadtbahn Station is a former station of the Viennese Stadtbahn The buildings above ground on Karlsplatz are a well-known example of Jugendstil architecture These buildings were included in The Vienna Secession, as they followed many of the artistic styles of that movement They were designed by Otto Wagner, adviser to the Transport Commission in Vienna,and Joseph Maria Olbrich and are, unlike the other Stadtbahn stations, made of a steel framework with marble slabs mounted on the exterior 1899 Main designer, Joseph Maria Olbrich Nazar 8
