1 The Second World War ASHFORD The Commonwealth War Graves Commission does NOT record the location of civilian war graves. It merely records their names. The Authors can confirm that many of these graves are still to be found in the Ashford area and the vast majority are literally falling apart. We have pointed out some of these decayed graves to the Ashford Borough Council and have asked them to consider restoring them. We were told that these war graves were not the responsibility of the Ashford Borough Council and that even if they were, funds were not available to pay for this kind of work. This reflects very badly directly on the local authority and indirectly on the people of Ashford itself We shall try and trace where these graves are all located and in time will add these details to this report.
