3 TRANSPORT CONTACT Public Transport The public transport in the city is well organised, with a comprehensive network of trams and buses. From early in the morning until late at night, the buses and trams will take you anywhere in and around Ghent. By train Ghent is easy to reach by train from all Belgian and European cities and is only half an hour from Brussels South Station. 5 Conference Speakers David Mullins is Professor of Housing Policy and leads the Housing and Communi%es Research Group in the School of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham. His books include Housing Policy in the UK (with Alan Murie, 2006) and A1er Council Housing (with Hal Pawson, 2010). In the last year with his colleagues at Birmingham he has completed research on community- led empty homes programmes in England, coopera%ve and collabora%ve housing in Austria and England, the future of social housing in England, social letngs agencies, resident management companies in older peoples housing and tenant involvement in housing governance in Northern Ireland, Austria, the Netherlands and Wales. A1er 25 years of research on social housing his main conclusion is that: had there been a greater sense of tenant and community ownership in social housing it would have been much harder for Governments to undermine its vision and purpose. Barbara Steenbergen has been working more than 16 years for the protec%on of tenants. She started in 2001 as head of the president s office of the German Union of Tenants (Deutscher Mieterbund) in Berlin and as poli%cal coordinator for energy policy and interna%onal affairs. In 2007, she was elected as head of the Interna%onal Union of Tenants EU Office in Brussels. Since 2013, she is a member of the IUT Execu%ve Commibee. She is responsible for the EU public affairs, poli%cal rela%ons and representa%on of interests towards the EU ins%tu%ons. From 2009 to 2012, she chaired the European Housing Forum; since 2013, she chairs the European responsible housing ini%a%ve stakeholder forum and jury. She is member of the EU urban agenda partnership for housing. Barbara is a German na%onal and holds a master degree in poli%cal science from the University of Bonn, Germany and a bachelor in public administra%on. Hannah Fischer- Baum has worked in the social housing sector since She is currently the Project Manager at Paris Habitat, public u%lity social housing company in Paris, France. Hannah has also worked with Foyer Remois, another public u%lity social housing company in France, as their Head of Design Development. Prior to her work in social housing, she was a City Planner and Project Manager for the New York City Department of City Planning, Manhaban Division. She completed her Master s degree in urban planning at Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2005.

6 Conference Speakers Sven Taeldeman is the Alderman of Housing for the City of Gent. He has vast experience in spa%al planning and copious amounts of knowledge on mobility and transporta%on. He began working in city government in 2007 and has a strong passion for neighborhood development and housing. Bart Velleman heads the Flemish Society of Social Housing. Prior to this lead role, he worked as an Opera%onal Director for the City of Antwerp from 2003 to From 1989 to 2003, Velleman worked at the Leadership Engineering Bureau. He completed a Master s degree in public management at the University of Antwerp in 2005 and a Master s degree in applied sciences at the University of Gent in Dr. Eric Meyer is the Managing Director of the Ins%tute for Coopera%ve Socie%es in the Center for Applied Economic Research at Wes4älische Wilhelms- Universität Münster. His research interests include business coopera%on, coopera%ve financial associa%ons in Europe, housing coopera%ves, and European economic policy. He has numerous publica%ons on these subjects. His most recent publica%ons is en%tled, New governance structures for the sharing economy. The ins%tute organizes the biannual conference Perspec%ves for Housing Coopera%ves

7 Conference Speakers Sorcha Edwards is convinced of the need for decent housing for all in order for our socie%es to func%on. Housing Europe members hold a strong role in achieving that. Sorcha has a dedicated past in promo%ng inclusive housing policies & a fair energy transi%on in the EU and across Europe. She is skilled in interna%onal project management, policy analysis and influence, and social, coopera%ve & public housing promo%on.
