2 About the Salvadori Center: Salvadori started with the idea that the environment around us is a great teaching tool. From this simple idea, more than 35 years ago, Salvadori developed a unique approach to learning. Students collaborate on hands-on projects to form hypotheses, test concepts, and draw conclusions. For example, they understand how buildings stand up by designing and testing columns, building structural grids, and measuring the impact of simple machines. Students gain a personal understanding of the math and science embedded in the buildings, bridges, and landmarks that form our communities. This year alone, Salvadori delivered 33,600 student impact hours in 130 classes to 3,145 students throughout all five boroughs of New York City. After-school programs reached students in 34 community centers; 27 within the New York City Housing Authority. Our in-school residencies provide all-inclusive curricula that directly link to national education standards and grade-specific learning objectives. Salvadori s programs work! Independent studies show Salvadori students have an increased engagement in science, technology, engineering, and math, greater interest in architecture and engineering careers, and improved problem solving skills. While our impact is impressive and our approach works, we still need your help to continue to serve New York City s students.

3 Founder s Awards for Excellence Business Award Bob Mullen Chief Executive Officer Structure Tone Organization Robert (Bob) Mullen is CEO of Structure Tone, a $3 billion construction services firm headquartered in New York City. In 2012, the company was ranked 20th world-wide on Engineering News Record s Top 400 Contractors List. Since joining Structure Tone in 2004, Bob has led several initiatives including diversification, sustainability and building information modeling (BIM). The firm now ranks on several of Engineering News Record s Top 5 sector lists, has managed over 25 million square feet of LEED projects, and is performing over 9 million square feet of construction utilizing BIM. Also under Bob s tenure, Structure Tone became the first construction management firm to participate in a successful Strategic National Partnership with OSHA. In 2012, Bob was the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn honoree and in 2011, F.E.G.S presented him with its Corporate Leadership Award. Bob has also been an honoree of the Boy Scouts of America, Greater New York Council and serves on the board of St. Paul s Cathedral Trust in America. Bob earned his Bachelor of Science and Master s degrees in civil engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He resides in NJ with his wife and four children.

Walcott Chancellor New York City Department of Education Lee Pomeroy is a principal of Lee Harris Pomeroy Architects (LHPA), a firm whose creative work embraces new and historic structures in the United States and abroad. LHPA s design efforts consistently deal with the balance between the built and natural environment, informed by historic reference and symbolic insight. Award-winning projects include corporate, cultural, educational, residential and public buildings. Recently completed international projects, including the Bin Hai International Convention Center in Tianjin, China; Westgate Village in Shanghai; Skill City Technology Center in Bangalore, India, and a new 12-kilometer Kolkata Metro, focus on transportation-oriented and place-making sustainable urban design. In New York, Lee Harris Pomeroy Architects has led the restoration and design of sympathetic additions to major landmarks including The Plaza Hotel, Trinity Church, Grand Central Terminal, Saks Fifth Avenue/Swiss Bank Tower, historic New York City subway stations and, recently, the 100-year-old headquarters of the New York, Westchester, and Boston Railroad, now IRT/180th Street Station. Mr. Pomeroy has served on the faculty of The School of Architecture of the City University of New York, is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Dennis M. Walcott is Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education. As Chancellor, Mr. Walcott oversees a system of more than 1,700 schools with 1.1 million students, 136,000 employees and a $23 billion budget. Building on Mayor Bloomberg s Children First reforms, Chancellor Walcott is committed to cultivating teacher talent, expanding school choices for families so that students attend schools that best meet their individual needs, creating strong partnerships with parents, and preparing students to graduate from high school and succeed in college and careers. Prior to his appointment as Chancellor, Mr. Walcott served as Mayor Bloomberg s Deputy Mayor for Education and Community Development for more than eight years. Chancellor Walcott graduated from New York City public schools in Queens, including P.S. 36, I.S. 192 and Francis Lewis High School. A lifelong Southeast Queens resident, Chancellor Walcott graduated from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut with a Bachelor s degree and a Master of Education in 1973 and 1974, respectively, and in 1980, received his Master of Social Work from Fordham University.
