5 CLASS POEM PSALM In gladness, I will stand still. The land slowly awakens - quickens to abrupt haste By which it will be scattered, and shaken. And the brown stubbornness of the wasted land Will shape my soul to strength - and a gradual joy. Exulting, I will lift my voice to the imponderable sun. Over the dissolute terrain, over the jagged rubble heaps, my praise will soar, And I will not falter in the winds, or in the pulsant storms Which cleave the earth in two. I will lift my frail humanity and be glad, for I am not confounded, And my voice will halt, even grow hoarse in my praising. I will be glad I am finite ; my hands, forcing Beauty from the stubborn mire Will not be thwarted. I will rejoice in my being; in my shrill cry, the earth will be renewed, And my rejoicing will be fearless In the chasmed silence of Eternity. SUZANNE MARIE MCGOWAN
6 ALMA MATER HYMN Alma Mater, honored Mother, Guardian of our youth, Guiding hand, with thee we stand Upon the way of truth. Emmanuel, we hail thee! Thy glorious deeds unfold. We pledge our loyalty to thee, 'Neath the banners of blue and gold. EMMANUEL All hail, Emmanuel, to you! Emmanuel, your daughters rise to greet you: God with you now and as of old. We pledge to you our love and loyalty And salute the blue and gold. Your lamp of truth will lead us onward; Each ray of light comes shining through. Our hopes, our dreams we bring to you, Emmanuel, we sing to you. In our joys and sorrows, You have had a share. Thoughts of glad tomorrows Banish ev'ry care. Proudly now we hail you; Lift your colors skyward; See them wave on high. Emmanuel, your daughters rise to greet you: God with you now and as of old. We pledge to you our love and loyalty And salute the blue and gold. Your lamp of truth will lead us onward, Emmanuel, our strength in strife. We hail your way, your truth, your life. Glad voices tell, hearts wish you well, Emmanuel.
