3 Panama Trip A Success! Eleven Santa Margarita MUN students recently returned from a trip to Panama City, Panama. The students attended the 23 rd annual PANAMUN Model United Nations conference hosted by the International School of Panama. Santa Margarita delegates represented the countries of the United Kingdom, Indonesia and Pakistan at a conference with the theme Combating Modern Extremism. "I enjoyed learning about the different cultures in the area and seeing the differences and similarities between what they have in Panama and what we have in the United States," said senior Riley Campbell. The students who attended the conference were Dakota Brady, Kayla Prager, Spencer Firestone, Mackenzie Nienhuis, Daniela Leon, Riley Campbell, Alex Estrada, Mackenzie Weil, Morgan Delaney, Amy Mohajer and Kristi Fecarotta. Six students won awards for their superior participation at the conference. Morgan Delaney, Riley Campbell, Amy Mohajer and Mackenzie Nienhuis won the honorable mention award. Dakota Brady and Alex Estrada won the prestigious best delegate award. In addition to attending the conference, students had a chance to transit the Panama Canal, zip line in Valle Anton and see many of the sites of Panama City. "One of my favorite parts of being in Panama was going to the canal, because it ties in to a part of American history, said senior Kristi Fecarotta. It was fascinating to see how it functions, and experience it with Mrs. Charity because she taught me about the canal last year in U.S. History. Congratulations to all the students for their participation and recognition.
