1 Serving the Community since 1985 In Gear R O T A R Y C L U B O F B E A U M A R I S W E E K L Y B U L L E T I N Number 6, 3 August 2015 Presidents Report A wonderful fellowship night was held last Thursday night at La Cucina Restaurant in the North Concourse. As the first fellowship for the year it set a high benchmark. Priests and gangsters, nonnas and gondoliers, even the Pope was there. It was indeed a religious night as the Pope and the Nun took out the costume prizes, Kerrie took out the spot prize, and Ken took out a special prize for the pizzahat/face. Richard organized a great night ably assisted by Rewa, Jude and Phil. Thanks to all. It was great to see our potential members Vivien and partner Mark, Tim and Lois came to enjoy the night and to get to know everyone better. The staff at La Cucina were very hospitable, and their generosity with the food provided, and their attitude showed the respect that Rotary is held in locally. It was again a busy Rotary week as Megan, Malcolm and I again this week interviewed a prospective member and talked about the benefits and obligations of Rotary. We re doing so again next week. I have to thank Megan for the enthusiasm and diligence with which she is pursuing membership and marketing, she is making sure that potential members feel welcome but also understand what it all means, and what is needed on both sides. This week also we had a special Board meeting on Tuesday night the 28 th July, at the request of the special subcommittee of International to discuss the work the subcommittee had done on a Grant application for Sabu. David Langworthy, John Manks, Jim O Brien and Ken Mirams took on this task, and I would especially like to record my thanks to them. In summary, it was agreed by the Board. That Rotary Club of Beaumaris will currently support the $13,000 budget allocation to be our commitment to the Solar Global Grant proposal, and agree to allow members of the club to start to secure support from other Rotary Clubs, District 9800, Kupang District and other contributors, of the balance, prior to a formal review of the project/ Next Meetings T 6 A S : L D T : N M C : M G AV: G E C D : J B R F H : H C T 13 A S : D S T : D T C : P F AV: M P C D : J B R F H : G E T 20 A S : J -M H T : M C : K G AV: D L C D : J B R F H : H C Unless stated otherwise venue is Victoria Golf Club 6.30 for 7.00 Contents 1 Presidents Report 2 Notices 3 / 4 La Cucina Photos 5 Concourse Car and Bike Show 6 Make a Girl s Day Flyer 7 RC of Caulfield Monash Concert 8 Club Program 9 Club Structure / Picture of Week
2 application by the Board in the September/ October time frame. It will be made clear to any of the Clubs approached that if any of the preconditions are not met, e.g. funding not secured from other clubs, essential other criteria not met then the project could not proceed. France, I am sure that we will all cope and enjoy ourselves. Looking forward to seeing you all next Thursday for Lynda s new member talk. Trish It was also made clear that there will be no further monetary allocation by the RCOB. The $13,000 is the upper limit of any contribution for us. If the costings come in as any more than this then the project will be scaled back. It was also agreed that there will be a Formal Meeting of the board with both John Beaty and Graham Richardson (by invitation) present so that all requirements and expectations could be thoroughly canvassed and all queries satisfied prior to any authorisation for the Grant to be submitted. There will be a further discussion of the project, both by the board and the membership following John Beaty s return from overseas. John is the Director of the International Committee. For our local work Chris D Arcy and Lynda Doutch had a meeting with Fairway Hostel in Bluff Road, to see if we can undertake a project relating to older residents with them and the indications are looking very promising. I would like us to start our international loose change project next week, if you have any spare international coins in a drawer at home, empty them out and bring them along next week. We will be trying to fill up Jam jars (not James jars, as James has already contributed international coins from the Farmers Market change). See full details on page 4. Please note updated Club and Team Structure on page 9. Next Saturday is the Farmers Market, and even although Heather has had to go to the South of Note; As part of our arrangement with Hocking Stuart discounts on agents fees are available to RCOB members.
