Margaret Hickemote nee Henley died and was buried at Goudhurst in Probable children, all baptized at Goudhurst: Joane (1576-6), Thomas (1577), Richard ( ), Mary (1583). 23 Dec 1572 George HICMOTTE/Marie AUSTEN Goudhurst Records in the National Archives mention a George Hickmott of Aylsford, yeoman in Joane (6 May 1576, Goudhurst; Wylliam) Tyler 12 May 1576 Joane HICKMOTE, dau of Wylliam Goudhurst Tyler Thomas (bap 13 Oct 1577, Goudhurst: William)=Margaret Combar in 1601 Richard (bap 13 Aug , Goudhurst: Wylliam) Mary (bap 22 Mar 1583, Goudhurst: Wylham)=Mathew Brown(e) in 1606 Tyler Tyler Tyler 02 Oct 1598 William Henry HICKMOTE/Anne COGGER Cranbrook Although still to be confirmed, we now think that William may have been born at Horsmonden in around 1570, the eldest son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hickmote nee Kingswoode of that village. He died and was buried at Cranbrook in William s last will and testament indicates that he was a butcher and owned land and properties in both the parishes of Cranbrook and Horsmonden. His properties at Cranbrook were left to his oldest son William (see his details below). Those at Horsmonden were willed to his youngest son Thomas (to be assumed once Thomas reached the age of 26). Susan McAlpinbe tells us that Anne was baptized at Sandhurst in Kent on 18 November 1576, the daughter of Simon Cogger and Agnes Leeche. She and William lived at Cranbrook after their marriage and had nine children there: William ( ), Thomas (1602-3), Mary ( ), Anne ( ), Katherine ( ), Richard (1610), Patience ( ), Elizabeth (1616) and Thomas ( ). Anne was buried at Cranbrook on 3 November 1648). The last will and testament of William junior indicates that his wife was Elizabeth, he had a brother Thomas, and at least six children: William, Thomas, Mary who married Edward Vincle, Judith, Jane Rappon (?) and another daughter who married Edward Glover (?). 26 Nov 1599 Wylliam HICKMOT/Margarett STEPHEN Goudhurst Tyler Wylliam was probably the son of Wylliam and Margaret Hickmote nee Heneley (who were married at Horsmonden in 1568). Known children all born at Goudhurst: William ( ), Marie (1603), Margaret (1606), Elizabeth (1609-9), Thomas (1618), Elizabeth ( ), Richard (1623), Mary (1625-5), George (1626-6), John (1628-8) William ( Cranbrook; William & Ann)=Elizabeth reg 9 May 1599 William HICKMOT Goudhurst Tyler William s last will and testament, made out in the one and fortieth year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth [1599], indicated that he was a yeoman of Goudhurst, 2

3 that his wife was named Margaret [Heneley], that he had at least four children at the time of his death Mary, Thomas, Richard and William and that he owned land at Lamberhurst and Brenchley. 1600s 08 Jun 1601 Thomas HICKMOTT/Margaret COMBAR Goudhurst Tyler Thomas was probably the son of William Hickmote and Margaret Heneley who were married at Horsmonden in 1598 and had a son, Thomas, baptized at Goudhurst in We think that he died at Goudhurst in 1604 (see below - the burial notice describes him as Thomas of Rucke, suggesting that he may have lived at Ruck Farm which is about a mile southwest of Horsmonden on the Lamberhurst Road). Assumed children: Margaret (1602, Horsmonden) and Elizabeth (1604, Horsmonden). Wylliam (13 Sep , Goudhurst; Wylliam) Tyler 24 Aug 1601 Richard HICKMOTT, son of William Goudhurst Tyler Richard was probably the son of William and Margaret Hickmott nee Henley who were married at Horsmonden in 1598 and had a son Richard baptized at Goudhurst in Thomas (24 Oct Cranbrook; William & Ann) 13 Jan 1602 Thomas HICKMOT Cranbrook Marie (bap 17 Apr 1603, Goudhurst: Wylliam) Mary (15 Apr , Cranbrook; William & Ann)=Richard Vyncett Tyler 31 May 1606 Mary HICKMOTE/Mathew BROWN Goudhurst Probably the daughter of William and Margaret Hickmott nee Heneley who were married at Horsmonden in 1598 and had a daughter, Mary, baptized at Goudhurst in Ann (3 Aug 1606, Cranbrook; William & Ann)=Peter Adams Margitt (13 Jul 1606, Goudhurst; Wylliam) Elizabeth (29 May , Goudhurst; Wylliam) Catherine (5 Mar 1609, Cranbrook; William & Ann)=Alexander Weller Richard (4 Mar 1609, Cranbrook; William) Tyler Tyler reg 16 Feb 1609 Elizabeth, dau of Wylliam Goudhurst Tyler 25 Jul 1609 Margaret HICKMOTE (wife of Wyllium) Goudhurst Tyler Probably Margaret Heneley who married William Hickemote at Horsmonden in Four children. 03 Feb 1611 Margaret HICKMOTE Horsmonden reg We now think that this Margaret was Margaret Combar who married Thomas Hickmote ( Thomas of Rucke ) at Goudhurst in 1601 and had two daughters: Margaret (1602-9) and Elizabeth (1604) both born at Horsmonden. 3

The records of marriage held at Canterbury show that a Francis Hickmott, a mercer of Headcorn, stood bond for George and Elizabeth s marriage. Elizabeth died and was buried at Horsmonden in 1643, George sometime before that (see below).
