3 Baie de Dore Part Lots D & E Concession 7 The cemetery on the crest of the hill on the Concession 6 roadway dates back to the 1850s. The first death recorded on a monument is that of John Stuart, aged 29 years, who died February 14, At a meeting of shareholders in 1871, it was decided to purchase a lot from the southeast corner of Lot D., Concession 7 at a cost of $90.00, later, land was acquired from Lot E to enlarge the cemetery and provided driveway, in all, 5 acres. Most of the pioneer families of the area are represented by the 18 listed on the deed: David MacKenzie Donald McLennan Joseph Bruce Alexander MacKay Donald MacKay Gilbert Johnson Hugh Ross William Munro Angus Bruce Donald Stewart George Gunn John Fletcher Angus MacKay John Goar James Drummond Robert Cooper As a community Cemetery, it was to be nondenominational in use. The trustees appointed where William West, George MacKay, Donald Gunn, George MacKay and William Alexander Henderson. Work bees were organized when volunteers provided the labor for maintenance, help was tired when possible. A century later, a few descendents remaining in the area requested the Township to assume control. Council passed such a by-law on November 3, 1971 and since then has been responsible for the care of the cemetery. The burial grounds is still in use; every year there are a few burials. Where space is available in family law's there could be more burials in future. According to Bruce Twp. Book (Tales & Trails), Joseph Bruce & h/w Kathryn McKay are buried at Baie de Dore Cemetery. Mrs. Bruce died in 1894; no date given of Mr. Bruce's death. They were parents of Joseph Bruce listed at the beginning of row 15.
