2 TEN ARQUITECTOS develops research projects, design, architecture and infrastructure. With 30 years of experience in cultural centers, hotels, museums, residential and urban developments, parks, public spaces and furnishing, the office is based in Mexico City and New York. Over more than two decades, the office has resized public space, in the adaptation of industrial or historical infrastructure as institutional and emblematic architectures with buildings that become topographies from everyday urban notions to emerging landscape; works and projects with social, environmental, political and financial responsibility, a sustainable cycle where architecture becomes a sequence of places converging in the city. TEN ARQUITECTOS identifies and consolidates production systems in evolution and constant renewal. In that way, territories and areas that generate coexistence and sharing environments are designed. The landscape explores the urban condition as manufactured process, implemented and applied in layers to vindicate the essence of the processes. The constant redefinition of these design processes has become an ideal instrument for regenerating the city, but especially to interact, connect and share. With over 50 built works, the office provides bright, open spaces with textures, structures, decks and layers that become permeable to the context; their crossings, junctions, assemblies, transfers, confluences and envelopes. The beginning of TEN ARQUITECTOS would be the reinterpretation of modernity and its geometries, now, relies on the organization principles and configuration spaces betting for dialogue and otherness, with multiple views and reinvention of spaces from different cultures and urban phenomena. The use and interaction of ideas reconcile structural and design factors with space and social contexts; an explicit and adaptable language that fits more than a repeated and replicated model. Projects as places where senses and meanings are accumulated: planning and scale, the architecture and its objects, the city and its complexity. One constant is the multiplicity and action in public space, as the bridge, between people and their environment; similarly, the capabilities of ownership, strategies for change and transformation opportunities; urban interventions to regenerate the city as an opportunity to bring architecture to society in the public sense. Projects to make the city react, touching an area in such a way that it can improve, create y conciliate positive reactions; spaces that must be understood, not as an urban fragment thread, but as a chain of places. TEN ARQUITECTOS is drawn and designed from the actual diversity of inhabitants and their particular coexistences. Where people are living, it identifies, gathers, moves, walks, runs, organizes, objects, faces, associates and appropriate. 3 ENRIQUE NORTEN, DIRECTOR Enrique Norten was born in Mexico City in He studied architecture in Iberoamericana University (1978) and holds a Master in Architecture from Cornell University (1980). In 1986, he founded TEN Arquitectos and in 2001 opened a second office in New York. He lectures the Miller professorship at the University of Pennsylvania and has taught at Yale, UCLA, Michigan, Texas, Cornell, Parsons, Pratt Institute and Harvard universities. Over 28 year of career, he has received a lot of awards and accolades. He was the first Mies Van der Rohe award recipient for Latin American Architecture in1998; in 2005 he received the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts by the by the World Cultural Council; in 2007, the Smithsonian Institute's Legacy Award for his contributions to art and culture in the U.S. Later in 2013, he was recognized with the Project Merit Award AIA Design for the New York Public Library project; and obtained the "International Award" by the American Society of Registered Architects [SARA]. A year later he received the "Trayectorias 2014" Prize by the College of Architects of Mexico City, as well as the Prize for Artistic Expression of the José Limón Foundation in New York. And in 2015 the Richard J. Neutra Medal for Professional Excellence. During this 2018 the Government of Mexico, more precisely the Institute of Mexicans abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has granted him the recognition of Distinguished Mexican by his career as distinguished architect. More recently he received the Fine Arts Medal of Architecture by the Insituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. With more than 330 projects, 60 built, and many more in process, TEN Arquitectos has participated in projects of different scales and typologies, singlefamily houses, residential, cultural and institutional buildings, as well as landscape design and urban plans. 3
