3 VM Housing Ørestads Boulevard Copenhagen The VM Houses, shaped like a V and an M when seen from above, is the first residential project to be built in Ørestad; a new quarter of Copenhagen The characters represent PLOT s vision of how to create the most light possible and a view for the most residents possible The total project houses 41 shared-ownership flats and 180 owner-occupied apartments To leave room for life around the buildings they lifted the V House on five meter high columns, opening the courtyard to the park area on the south side, and broke down the facades with niches and angles, creating a series of informal meeting places Each apartment in the V Building has a tapering, triangular balcony with a panoramic south-facing view and rooms with up to five metres ceiling height Instead of the usual high-rise apartments the units are designed as loft spaces, each different both in width and height, letting residents design their own individual apartments m² Structural engineer BIG Bjarke Ingels Group JDS architects Moe & Brødsgaard Danish Oil Company and Høpfner Marloes_Faber Metro M1: Ørestad of Bella center 3

4 The Playhouse Sankt Annæ Plads Copenhagen Located on Kvæsthusbroen Landing Stage in the inner harbour of Copenhagen the Royal Theatre will get a new playhouse, at the end of Sankt Annæ Plads The Royal Theatre already has a theatre on the water, the Opera house on Kgs Nytorv, at the other side of the harbour Only the ballet will remain in the old building The two prominent positions along the water will turn them into two cultural focus points in the city The exterior of the new playhouse is dominated by a continuous glass-encased top story with offices and facilities for the actors On top is the black box each theatre has Visitors will arrive along gently sloping ramps, like a promenade, with a panoramic view of the waterfront A pedestrian and bicycle tunnel under the harbour to link the Playhouse with the Opera is being considered Project is public! 5 photo: Felix Luong Mountain Dwellings Ørestads Boulevard Copenhagen The Mountain Dwellings is the 2nd generation of the VM houses the older brother next-door, also by PLOT (now JDS architects and BIG) Same client, same size and same street The program however is 2/3 parking and 1/3 living The two functions are merged into a symbiotic relationship The housing is orientated to the sunlight, fresh air and view The parking has become the foundation of the housing Together they are combined into a artificial hillside, complete with sun-facing roof gardens and parking on the 10th floor The completion is planned in May 2008 photo: Felix Luong m² Main designer, BIG Bjarke Ingels Group JDS architects Danish Oil Company and Høpfner JDS Metro M1: Ørestad of Bella center 5

7 photo: Torben Eskerod photo: Torben Eskerod Østerbrogade 105 Housing Østerbrogade Copenhagen Østerbrogade 105 is a new residential property set among historical town houses in one of Copenhagen's most desirable areas The building's unique façade composition tells a modern story of variation and sculptural form, taking its cue from the rich detail of the neighbouring properties The reddish-brown façades of recycled brick and the modernistic bays link the building with the neighbourhood The bays, clad in copper and glass, are set like eyes upon the façade They offer a space where residents can step out and look far down the street, as well as drawing natural light deep into the apartments The dense brickwork which rounds off and concludes the block stretches for its entire length above a light glass wall which adorns the tall ground floor The contrast of the heavy surface floating above the light, tall glass facade gives the building a touch of modernity and an unexpected base photo: Torben Eskerod m² Services engineer Contractor C F Møller s COWI E Pihl & Søn Nordea Ejendomme C_F_Moller_s 7

8 photo: Maarten Helle photo: Maarten Helle SEB Bank & Pension Bernstorffsgade copenhagen SEB Headquarters is located near the harbour and Kalvebod Wharf The building complex frames a sloping landscape that rises 7 meters from Bernstorffsgade to the sites southern border The buildings volumes are derived from the location and sight lines to the harbour and city, incorporating a flexible, open plan that allows spacious, well-lit work areas arranged around circular cores containing elevators, toilets, and service shafts The facades consist of storey-high glass partitions in a staggered rhythm with inset, copper-clad floor bands The sloping landscape covers the parking and technical areas while giving pedestrian and cycle access to a planned green park that will stretch to Dybbølsbro at the South Harbour photo: Maarten Helle m² Main designer, Landscape architect Structural engineer SLA Rambøll SEB Bank & Pension HelleBeelden 8
