3 Tillamook Urban Renewal Agency 210 Laurel Avenue Tillamook, Oregon Phone: Fax: TURA Streetscapes Committee Meeting Notes Tuesday, February 11, 2014 Committee Members Present: Chair Ruth LaFrance, Alene Allen, Betty Rolston Committee Member Absent: Tom Connaughton, Doug Henson Staff Present: City Manager Paul Wyntergreen, Executive Assistant Debbi Reeves Guests: Mayor Suzanne Weber Chair Ruth LaFrance called the Streetscapes Committee meeting to order at 12:06 p.m. Chair Ruth went over the recommendation packet that will be presented to the TURA board at their next meeting on February 12 th. Paul spoke about the work being done with TCCA on branding for Tillamook, which could be ready by May. This new branding could be used in the pilot project. There was discussion about the recommendation and committee consensus is to present the recommendation to the board. Chair Ruth added the discussion about themes to the agenda. Alene noted she likes the brick work done around town. Chair Ruth commented on murals incorporated into the theme. Betty commented on metal screens with wording similar to what they are doing in Astoria. She presented a drawing of some of her ideas to the committee. Themes ideas discussed were lumber/timber/forestry, quilts, pioneers, dairy, fishing, and other cities in the county. There was discussion about arcade structures, screens, and themes. The consensus of the committee is to incorporate brick into the street screens somehow and to use a historic theme. After discussion it was decided the Streetscapes Committee would need to go to the Beautification Committee and then on to the City Council for approval. Chair Ruth will put this all together. Mayor Weber presented the idea of one-way on 2 nd Street between Main and Pacific to the committee. There was discussion about diagonal parking, the pedestrian area, and one-way traffic. She showed a design concept to the committee members and committee consensus was in favor of the idea. The Streetscapes Committee will work with the city on the plan. There was discussion of projects currently going on in the downtown area. Debbi spoke about the lady who had approached TURA and the Streetscapes Committee about memorial benches. There was discussion about who buys the bench, plaques, and placement of the benches. Debbi will get quote for benches for the next meeting. 4 Concerns of the Committee, Other Business: There was discussion about the specifications for the pilot project so the committee will walk 2 nd Street on March 11 th to take measurements and potential bench placement.
