During the period represented by these records, ADL not only combatted anti-semitism but also promoted civil rights for blacks. The Pacific Northwest regional office was located in Portland until January 1956, when it was moved to Seattle. Administrative Information Detailed Description of the Collection No : B'nai B'rith Anti-defamation League Northwest Regional Office records, cubic feet Scope and Content: Correspondence, minutes, and supporting organizational files. Includes subject files on people, organizations, lawsuits, and other events occurring during this time period. Arrangement: Records of the Regional Office have been divided into two parts, one for the Portland office, approximately , and the other for the Seattle office, approximately The Portland office functioned as the Regional office until January 1956, when the Seattle office became the Regional office. The Portland office continued to function until about The Seattle office existed for a number of years before it acted as the Regional office. Directors of the office have included: for Portland, David Robinson, and for Seattle in chronological order, Sam Holcenberg, P. Allen Rickles, Stanley Jacobs, Len Schroeter, and Seymour Kaplan.Portland office files integrated with those of the Seattle office have been treated as part of the Seattle office files. At this stage of processing, series have been identified by the predominant kind of material contained in a file. Thus, incoming letters might also include some outgoing letters or minutes of meetings.portland office files concerned with the passage of a Fair Employment Practices Act in Oregon were acquired in 1967 and have been retained as a separate accession.restrictions apply to these records.
