Voted among the Top 50 New Hotels in the World by Conde Nast Traveller (2004), this stunning, 2-floor property attracts discerning visitors from all over the world. It is famous for its spectacular views of the sea, volcano and caldera and the view from the Mansion is the one most often featured in photographs of Santorini. The two-storey mansion is partly caved into the cliff, while its façade is a combination of renaissance inspired upper level, made out of dark volcanic stone and a more traditional, island style lower level, washed in a creamy colour. The interiors are a blend of characteristic elements of Cycladic cave houses and of 19th century mansions. The wide plank floors are quite rare for Santorini, you only find these in the mansions build by rich sea captains, and the crossvaulted ceilings, are among the highest in Oia. The Captain s Mansion is located towards the end of Oia, close to the sunset castle, just under the main pathway that crosses the village and spreads in two levels. Each level has each own terrace and each own independent entrance, but they are also connected by an internal staircase. On the upper level there are two double suites and on the level below, is the third one that has room for up to four people. Inside, soaring 15-foot ceilings are suspended in ornate chandeliers above fourposter or canopy beds surrounded in handpicked antiques by the owner himself. The suites have all large, marble clad bathrooms, and are fitted with all modern amenities and a complementary mini bar stocked with soft drinks.
