Along its stunningly beautiful coastline are many fine beaches.
3 To the east of Lossiemouth with its excellent new marina, is a stretch of sand that reaches many miles to the mouth of the River Spey, one of the world s greatest salmon fishing rivers. To the east of this attractive former fishing port is a mixture of sandy stretches and cliff paths including the unusual Hopeman Golf Club that features spectacular cliff-top fairways. In this area are the smaller coast communities of Hopeman, Cummingston and Burghead where another long stretch of forestfringe sand nearly eight miles long takes you to the beautiful yachting centre of Findhorn a fascinating village with an important maritime past and set among sand dunes that are listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Findhorn is also home to the New Age Findhorn Foundation that attracts visitors from around the world. Moray is well served with communication links major road and rail arteries run through its heart and local buses serve the Moray uplands and fascinating villages like Dufftown, Knockando and pretty Aberlour. Throughout the county are many castles and fine large houses some in ruins, but many still occupied and, like Brodie Castle three miles west of Forres, a National Trust for Scotland property that is open to the public. Rich in scenery, forest and superb coastal and upland walks, Moray has one other unique claim to visitor fame: Lossiemouth and Kinloss each played host to two of the busiest and most important RAF airfields in Britain. In 2009 they celebrated 70 years of service and are continuing to play key roles in military aviation. Every year they attract thousands of aircraft enthusiasts something that underlines the area s fine weather record and the main reason why the air stations were established here in the first place. Moray itself is another north of Scotland gem gentle and green with a coastline fringing the Moray Firth that offers sand, spectacular cliffs and outstanding wildlife interest. History Bleachfield House dates from 1748 while the cottage was built in 1800, and both properties were originally part of the linen industry at Deskford. A bleach field was created here in 1752 where linen cloth and thread were bleached, and at the height of the business some 1500 pieces of cloth and 1700 spindles were whitened here every year, bringing wealth to the district. When the industry declined in the early 19th century the properties became occupied by farm workers, and remained as accommodation for estate workers until the late 1950s, after which the buildings were abandoned.
4 Description Bleachfield House and Cottage sit adjacent to each other in just under half an acre of land, and offer the potential to use the larger four bedroom house as a permanent home with the smaller one bedroom cottage as a short term or holiday let. The property, in its idyllic rural setting, has now been lovingly restored and remains one of the finest examples of mid 18th century domestic architecture in the area. Alternatively, there is great flexibility for multi-generational families to have generous independent space, but be in close proximity. Both the house and cottage were stripped back to their bare stone walls, revealing details such as the original roof beams and fireplaces which enhance the living space on offer today. Every element of the refurbishment by the previous owner was handled with a sympathetic eye, from the choice of kitchens to the antique furniture and paintings that help give each of these properties its distinctive ambience. The current owners have continued with this theme offering two truly ready to move into homes. At this level is the principal bedroom with walk in wardrobe. Adjacent is a bathroom with three piece white suite and Grohe over the bath mixer shower. Again with all the charm and character of the main house, Bleachfield Cottage offers very spacious living quarters. The sitting room features a wood burning stove and the dining kitchen has modern base and wall units with the many windows affording good natural light. There is an external door from this room into the garden grounds. The rear double bedroom has twin windows and the bathroom with three piece white suite and over bath shower has ample space for a separate shower enclosure. Outside A delightful picket fence encloses the front driveway which is a thick carpet of gravel stones offering ample turning and parking spaces, with numerous ornate driveway carriage style lamps. Each property has two former coal cellars at the rear which are now used for gardening tools, oil tank, tool shed and log store.
