DESCRIPTION Perched on a cliff with views of Mount Vesuvius Built into the cliffs of the Sorrentine Peninsula, this villa has spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius. Although nestled in the heart of a tranquil neighbourhood of Sorrento (50 km south of Naples) and accessed by the typical, narrow roads of the old town, a five minute walk will take you to the lively town center where you can enjoy the charming atmosphere of local daily life. Marina Piccola ferry service for trips to Naples, Capri, Ischia, Positano, Amalfi and Salerno, is walking distance to the villa. Surrounded by ancient gardens with hidden alcoves and crumbling statues, this multiple story residence will capture your imagination. The living rooms are located on the lower mezzanine floor and on the ground floor. On the mezzanine floor guests can relax in the luxurious living room or lounge and can choose between dining indoors or on the spacious outdoor terrace facing Mount Vesuvius and looking out over the sea. The kitchen is decorated with black and white checked tiles and is perfect for cooking anything from simple snacks to exquisite dinners. On the ground floor the entrance hall and vestibule are decorated with Roman and Greek statues and the two comfortable living rooms both have sea views. The house is air conditioned and has Wi-Fi available. On the first floor the master bedroom has picturesque sea views, an en suite bathroom as well as a separate lounge. The other double bedroom on the first floor does not have sea views but does have a large en suite bathroom. On the second floor only two of the four double bedrooms (all en suite) have a sea view. One of the two without a sea view has a dressing room. All the bathrooms in the house are done in Marble of various colours. For relaxation guests can spend time in the library on the ground floor a unique, historical environment, enhanced with marble columns, Greek and Roman statues and many other works of art where the official declaration for the first, post World War II Italian government was signed. Alternatively they can use the music room on the mezzanine floor or the fitness and massage room on the basement level accessed by a lift. Although the garden does not allow for any recreational activities besides exploring ancient ruins, there are a multitude of sporting and cultural activities in the surrounding areas that can be arranged by the concierge. The gardens of this villa are considered to be one of the ten most beautiful gardens in Page 1

2 Italy and one of the twenty most beautiful gardens in all Europe. Still standing within the grounds are the ruins of an ancient Roman villa built by Agrippa Postumus, the grandson of Emperor Augustus and dating back to the 1st century A.D. At the beginning of the 20th century, William Waldorf Astor, the U.S. Ambassador to Italy, acquired the property and designed a splendid garden at the back of the house where a 13th century convent (whose ruins can still be seen) once stood. In addition to the rich historical background, the property is graced with an internal pool in a natural grotto (known as the Bagno dei Frati) with direct access to the sea. A private swimming pool in the idyllic garden setting complements the villa.
