9 MARKET OVERVIEW - SKOKIE The Village of Skokie is a well-established suburb located approximately 16 miles northwest of Downtown Chicago. During the 1940 s and 1950 s, Skokie experienced a surge in population growth. Middle-class Chicagoans moved to Skokie for its newly developed bungalow-style homes and 2-4 flat buildings, which today, are still a major composite in Skokie s housing inventory. The village has a total area of approximately 10 square miles and is bordered by Glenview and Wilmette to the north, Lincolnwood and Chicago to the south, Morton Grove and Niles to the west and Evanston to the east. Skokie has a estimated population of approximately 64,000 residents.
