6 LOCATION River Place is located at the corner of Chestnut and Water Streets, in the heart of Downtown s business district. Located just blocks away are the headquarters for major corporations and emerging businesses, a college campus and many annual events that put River Place in the center of it all. Annually, Downtown hosts two major festivals that fill Water Street with patrons. The Azalea Festival, an annual spring community festival founded in 1948, attracts over 200,000 people to the Street Fair located down Water Street and directly in front of River Place. Riverfest, a community arts festival that takes place in the fall, is also located directly on Water Street and attracts over 100,000 attendees and vendors. Major corporations and some of Wilmington s largest employers have recognized the value in developing their headquarters Downtown. PPD, a global giant in pharmaceuticals, is located one half mile from River Place and employs over 1,800 people at their Wilmington location. Cape Fear Community College s main campus is located just 2 blocks north and currently enrolls over 28,000 students every year. The City of Wilmington s main offices are located 3 blocks west and other major employers within walking distance include Wells Fargo, First Bank, Bank of America, and BB&T. Emerging companies are also making their new homes in Downtown Wilmington. Next Glass, a research and technology company, has moved in to two floors at 21 South Front Street. They currently have 21 employees on staff and by 2017 they plan to increase their sales team to 48 employees.
