1 Types of Student Accommodation - Accommodate rooms This document will inform you on the different types of student accommodation available. All rooms offered in this document are fully furnished; you can find more information on the furnishing and inventory at the end of this document for rooms from DUWO, they also has a general page for international VU students where you can find lots of information. With this document we will guide you in choosing the right accommodation for you. First, we give you some criteria to think about (page 1 & 2 &3). Secondly, we will show you pictures of the rooms, the prices and, if available, a link to a video in which students show their room. Please note that all rooms are available for maximum of one year only. In case you are interested in room for a longer period, please us at studentaccommodation@vu.nl BUDGET The price of accommodation varies between 324 and 875 per month. Utilities (water/ electricity/ internet) are included in the price. When you choose a room with a low rent, you will have to share your facilities (kitchen and/or bathroom). A flexible attitude is desirable when sharing a bathroom and/ or kitchen. SOCIAL In case you would like to meet many students, have dinners and/or drinks together, we advise you to choose for a room with a shared kitchen and/or bathroom. If you are more reserved and if it is important to you to be by yourself, we suggest to select a private, self-contained room. If you would like both we advise you to book a private room at Uilenstede since there are many students living here and it is a lively student community with many facilities. There is less social interaction between students at the other locations in Amsterdam (Krelis Louwensstraat, Eerste Ringdijkstraat, Cornelis Lelylaan or Pierre Lallementstraat). FACILITIES As a student in the Netherlands, it is very common to have your own bedroom while sharing your facilities (kitchen and/or bathroom). We have a wide range of options available in terms of shared facilities. 2 LOCATION We have student accommodation available in different locations in Amsterdam. Although you might be dreaming of living in the city center with its canals and tall houses, you may wish to reconsider since it is mostly wealthy Dutch people or tourists staying there. In contrast to the city center, Uilenstede is located in a very green area, in between two parks and close to the Amsterdam forest. Krelis Louwenstraat and Cornelis Lelylaan (West-side), Eerste Ringdijkstraat and Pierre Lallementstraat (East-side) are located in genuine Amsterdam areas; mixed population and close to a supermarket and public transport and close to the city center. Please note that De Boelelaan/Groningstraat is accommodation in a residential area and not suitable for parties. You will easily find out more about the different locations by using Google Maps. 3 STATE OF THE BUILDING Some students prefer a modern, clean and fresh building, if this is the case, we advise you to choose for accommodation at the following locations: Pierre Lallementstraat, Eerste Ringdijkstraat or Krelis Louwenstraat. Our accommodation at Uilenstede was built in the seventies. It is old fashioned and a bit outdated and suitable for students who are looking for budget accommodation. We also have one brand new building, which will be ready in Summer 2017: Cornelis Lelylaan. So, based on these criteria and your priorities, you should be able to decide which room will meet your needs. In this accommodation you will be the first tenant in the room. Please don t worry, it will be furnished and ready to move in when you get your key. Currently the builders are finnishing the inside of the rooms. As soon as we have more information on the rental prices and pictures of the room, we will publish it in this document.

13 EXTRA OFFER WINTER SEMESTER 2017/2018 O HOTEL JANSEN (AVAILABLE FOR 1 SEMESTER EXCHANGE STUDENTS) Hotel Jansen is an all-inclusive Short Stay Hotel for students and young proffessionals. We have arranged a special deal for the upcoming semester: A room at Hotel Jansen from August till end of December/January for 750 per month. Extra fees: 200 Administration costs. 14 THE STUDENT HOTEL (AVAILABLE FOR 1 SEMESTER EXCHANGE STUDENTS OR 1 YEAR MASTER STUDENTS) We arranged a special deal with The Student Hotel in Amsterdam-West. The Student Hotel offers fullyserviced, state-of-the-art accommodation just as if you were staying in a hotel. This includes: A personal bike, cleaning and change of bed-linen, 24 hours reception & security and use of the gym, study room, game room, library and other common areas. Optional services: Meal plan, room cleaning service, bed linen, kitchen utensils sets. The room reserved for you is a Standard room.
