1 Current Students 4 The first step in projecting future student population is locating each current student on a computer generated map. PASA has geo coded each student using a latitude longitude coordinate corresponding to his or her address. The data file used for this analysis was downloaded from the District s database in September, 212 and contained 46,839 EE 12 th grade students. Of those, 36 students had addresses that were out of the District, that were not street addresses, or were otherwise unmatchable. PASA also needed to understand where areas of growth and decline have recently occurred within the District boundaries. The redistribution of students within existing homes in K.I.S.D. is one driving force of enrollment change in this District, so it is important that PASA understands which neighborhoods are gaining and losing students. To accomplish this task, PASA also analyzed datasets from the Fall, 21 and the Fall, 211. Enrollment Trends Resident Students by Planning Unit The first set of maps in this chapter shows the total number of students currently living in each Planning Unit. Also shown are the percent and absolute change in students living in each Planning Unit between September, 211 and September, 212. The purple and cyan colors on the map represent planning units that have lost students, or have stayed stationary in the last year. Resident Students by Attendance Zone This data is also shown at the attendance zone level on the next maps in the chapter. Kreinhop, Roth, Kohrville, Hassler, Brill, Kaiser, Klenk, McDougle, Epps Island, Eiland, and Nitsch all lost student population in the last year. Mueller gained 56 students, while Kuehnle gained 52. All of the intermediate schools gained student population, while Klein Collins and Klein Forest both lost student population. Changes in ethnicity of the student population and free and reduced lunch status at the elementary school level are also shown in this chapter. Several of the schools lost student population that was qualified for Free and Reduced Lunch students. This occurred in the midst of continued statewide increase in Free and Reduced Lunch student population. Population and Survey Analysts October, 212: Page 235

2 Resident Students by Subdivision and Apartment Complex This year, the most significant net growth of new students added to occurred in actively building subdivisions (668 added students over the past year), while built out subdivisions lost 123 students. The number of students living in apartments and mobile home parks also increased with apartments netting 128 additional students and mobile home parks adding 126 students. Resident Students in Fall Resident Students in Fall Added Students Fall 21 to Fall 211 Resident Students in Fall Added Students Fall 211 to Fall 212 Type of development Actual Change Percent Change 212 Actual Change Percent Change Apartments 3,128 3, % 3, MHP 1,356 1, , % Subdivisions - built-out 35,182 34, , % Subdivisions - actively building 4,884 5, % 6, % Apartments MHP Subdivisions - built-out Subdivisions - actively building Percent of Growth Fall 21 to Fall Percent of Growth Fall 211 to Fall % 1 18% % 8 The actively growing subdivisions that added the most students this year included Northcrest Village (55 added students), Auburn Lakes Reserve (47 students), Ashford Grove (46 students), The Chancel (43 students) and Memorial Springs (4 added students). Some of the homebuyers for the lowest valued new housing units are being assisted via non profits to provide the down payments, thus encouraging the rapid build out of these subdivisions where a zero down payment is advertised. These active subdivisions had a net gain of 668 additional students this school year, with a gain from Fall, 21 to Fall, 211 of 57 students. The older, built out subdivisions both added and lost students. Slightly more subdivisions lost students than gained students, and the net was a decrease in student population. The largest losers were: Northcliffe Manor ( 52), Willowood ( 44), Forest North ( 33) and Champion Forest ( 3). Memorial Northwest gained 85 students, after losing 74 the previous years, and Cypresswood gained 36, after losing 24 the year before. Population and Survey Analysts October, 212: Page 236
