2 Welcome to Homebid Magazine A new way to help you find a home in Southampton Homebid gives you more choice about where you want to live. In the past you waited on the Housing list until a property was selected by the council. Now you decide which properties you would like to be considered for. If you are currently waiting on the city council s Housing List, you should have already received a letter about Homebid and how you can obtain a User Guide at Gateway. The User Guide contains all of the information that you need to know in order to bid for your new home. Every fortnight SCC produces this free magazine, Homebid Magazine, distributed at various points across the city, which advertises almost all the available homes. You can look at the adverts and decide whether you want to be considered for any of the properties. You express your interest in properties by making a bid for them. A summary of how you can bid for properties can be found in the Homebid User Guide which you can obtain at Gateway. You will not be able to bid on properties in the Homebid Magazine until you have been accepted onto the Housing List. If you would like to find out more about Homebid, you could contact the Allocations Advice Line on , Gateway Southampton at One Guildhall Square. Further contact details can be found in the Homebid User Guide and also at The adverts Key to advert symbols 3 bed house Available for homeseekers only Available for housing register applicants only Available for transferring tenants only Available for homeseekers and housing register applicants Available for homeseekers and transferring tenants Available for housing register applicants and transferring tenants Available for homeseekers, housing register applicants and transferring tenants Property designed for people this age and above Number of bedrooms and property type Minimum and maximum number of people who can live in this property Number of bedrooms in property Tower block Lift in block Floor level of property Suitable for a dog (permission from landlord needed). 5 New housing for 55 years or older in Regents Park Road Thorners, a Southampton-based Almshouse Charity (registered charity number ), has redeveloped a well known housing scheme in the City. The scheme is located on Regents Park Road, Shirley close to local amenities and facilities. There are 28 self-contained flats due to be available in February The flats are not being allocated via Homebid, as Thorners have their own criteria that will be used to assess application and allocate the homes the Council s Lettings Policy will not apply. What is the scheme like? The housing scheme has 60 flats in total, a mix of ground floor and first floor homes. All flats are wheelchair accessible and there is a resident scheme manager. Facilities within the complex include a communal lounge, laundry room, lift, mobility scooter/cycle store, a communal garden and parking. The flats are self-contained and have two bedrooms. However, the flats are for single occupancy only. The weekly maintenance contribution (equivalent to rent) and additional charges will be in the region of 140 a week. Who can apply? To be eligible for this scheme each applicant must initially meet Thorner s charitable objectives, and these are not the same as the Council s Lettings Policy. To be considered for this scheme you need to be female, aged 55 years or older and single. There are other aspects to Thorners criteria that will be discussed with you on application. Consideration will be given to your housing need and therefore anyone interested does need to be on the Housing Register. Council and Housing Association tenants currently in larger family homes may be particularly interested in these flats. If you are 55 years or older but below state-pensionable age, please be aware that you may be affected by recent changes to Housing Benefit and you may have a shortfall in your rent. How to apply If you are interested in one of these flats, or have a friend or relative that is, please contact Thorners directly for an application form of further information; Marilyn Lodwick Tel: enquiries@thorners.org.uk Homebid magazine 5
