3 In chapter 9 the reader learns more of Larraine s childhood and her family. It switches between Larraine s story and the Eagle movers stories. We learn more about life in the trailer parks, and how difficult it is to be a mover that works with evictions. Most of the chapter is focused on Larraine s 24 hour eviction notice and goes into her struggles to make rent money for that month in time. She is told to ask family or friends, but for many people living in poverty, most of her family is struggling as well. The chapter also goes through the movers daily routines, making their way from house to house, and going into some of the eviction circumstances. It aswell describes some of the movers past jobs with evictions that were particularly awful.

4 In Chapter 10 we get introduced to Lamar, Sherrena, Quentin, Mikey. These are just some of the characters introduced in this chapter. We learn that most landlords will have hypes who will work for pretty much anything this is how landlords get the tenants to do maintenance instead of hiring professionals to do it. Most of this chapter consists of introductions and how life in the inner cities are like for low end areas and those apartments don t usually have many appliances like refrigerator s or a dryer and washer the reason for this is so if they break they don t have to pay for maintenance.

5 Quentin and Shereena get back from an 8 day vacation in Jamaica just before the first of the month. On the first of the month they collect rent, do evictions, and checkups on their tenants. They meet with quite a few of their tenants including Doreen who they discover is witholding rent to pay for moving. Shereena files a notice to evict Doreen but they settle it for increased rent payment from Doreen.

6 Doreen: Kids adn grandkids: Mikey, kayla Mae, Ruby, Jada, Patrice, and Natasha Natasha is pregnant Tabatha: Social worker who makes visits to Doreen s house Tabatha told Sherrena that Doreen was planning to move This caused Sherrena to file an eviction notice to Doreen They then settled it out of court

7 Sherrena and Quentin did not like having tenants with rent assistance due to the picky inspectors in the program. Voucher holders make up 6% of the renter market. Department of Housing and Urban Development sets a Fair Market Rate (FMR) FMR: the most a landlord can charge for rent to a family with a voucher In 2009 the FMR was $1,089, the average rent in 2009 was around $665 Sherrena charged $775 to a voucher holder to increase her income through the FMR (149)

9 After the foreclosure crisis Sherrena bought about 1 to 2 properties a month 2009 the Free Foreclosure List showed 1,400 properties listing for 30,00 or more below assessed value Foreclosure- a legal process in which a lender attempts to recover the balance of a loan from a borrower, who has stopped making payments to the lender, by forcing the sale of the house ( )

10 This chapter focuses on Arleen not being able to ask her own family for help paying the rent so she won t be evicted. Arleen feels like she can't ask her family for money because she doesn t see being evicted as a true emergency, she also didn t want to be a burden and ask for too much. Sherrena shows Arleen s apartment to a new tenant, Crystal, and Crystal tells Arleen that she and her boys can stay until they find a place. Sherrena is okay with this arrangement.
