1 Annual Report North Muhlenberg St. Woodstock, VA TRISIGMAFOUNDATION.ORG

2 More than anything, the Tri Sigma Foundation of today and tomorrow relies on you. The generosity of our donors has positioned the TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION as a leading source of support for the educational and leadership programs of the National Organization, as well as the scholastic and philanthropic pursuits of its members. While we work to meet today s needs, we are also transforming to meet tomorrow s cementing our place in the hearts of Sigmas both now and in the years to come. Thanks to your generous support in , the Tri Sigma Foundation donated 116,100 to help fund more than 176 HOURS of critical leadership training through our three national leadership programs: Officer Academy, the Dunham Women of Character Institute, and the Labyrinth Leadership Experience. We were able to fund 28 SCHOLARSHIPS, totaling 33,300, as well as 10 GRANTS through the Robbie Page Memorial fund totaling 69,863. As you ll see within this annual report, we re making significant strides in increasing our funding in all three of these areas. Supporting the TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION means investing in a thriving organization and our Sigma sisters across the world. Sisters who are focused on scholastic, leadership, and charitable pursuits; sisters who will change the world. We hope the programs, stories, and women in this annual report share the story of what you ve already made possible, as well as inspire your renewed support this year, and for many years to come. MEGHAN WARD-BOPP PADEN Foundation Executive Director JENNIFER E. HOLTSCLAW Foundation Chair What has Tri Sigma given you? TIME TO GIVE BACK. I give to the Tri Sigma Foundation because someone gave when I was in school. They provided funds for scholarships, leadership training and so much more. Now that I am an alumna how can I do any less for Molly Steadman and her son Henry who is 15 months. Support your sisters by making your gift today at trisigmafoundation.org our collegiate sisters? 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS Tri Sigma has taught me so many life lessons, one of which was how to set goals and achieve them. So, naturally I wanted to fulfill my goal of giving back through philanthropy and have included the Tri Sigma Foundation in my will. It was a personal goal I could meet easily and one that I hope will impact the future of our sisterhood. And it feels so good! Leslie Brady FOUNDATION FOR ME IS THE FUTURE OF TRI SIGMA. 15 Sigma s Devotion to Leadership Education 15,000 GRANTED 15,000 GRANTED IN FISCAL YEAR THE TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION PROVIDED FIVE GRANTS TO HELP FUND THE LEADERSHIP AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION. Each year we partner with the National Organization to invest in educational and leadership programming. These grants support programs that have the potential to impact the lives of each and every member of Tri Sigma. In the grants totaled 116,100, which is just 28% of the National Organization s request, due to our available resources. The generosity of our donors can change that, and we ll continue our work until financial resources are no longer a barrier to fully funding their annual grant request. 80,000 GRANTED Officer Academy is a regional program for newly elected officers to learn to lead using the values of Tri Sigma as their guide. This is more about skill development for women leaders than position training. 98.4% AGREED THAT THEY ARE BETTER LEADERS AND THIS EXPERIENCE WILL BENEFIT THEIR CHAPTER BECAUSE OF THEIR ATTENDANCE. Program participants like Lindsay Maunz, of Alpha Phi chapter, tell us that these leadership opportunities are making positive changes within our members and within our chapters: Officer Academy not only strengthened my love for Sigma and this organization, but I was able to FURTHER DEVELOP MY LEADERSHIP SKILLS as an officer. I learned valuable things to take back to my chapter and help make it the best it can be. I would recommend that any officer go to Officer Academy because it not only benefits your chapter in growth and development, but it also makes you a stronger and more confidant leader. This Institute focuses on the education of our newer members and is designed to empower emerging leaders to lead with character. Each chapter is encouraged to send at least one member to the Institute, to act as a positive change agent within their communities. 63% OF WOMEN THAT ATTENDED THE 2012 DUNHAM WOMEN OF CHARACTER INSTITUTE WERE APPOINTED INTO AN OFFICER OR CHAIR POSITIONS THE FOLLOWING YEAR. 100% of students agreed attending the Dunham Women of Character Institute strengthened their personal commitment to being a woman of character. 94.9% of students agreed attending the Dunham Women of Character Institute helped them understand components of developing an outstanding resume. 98.3% of students agreed attending the Dunham Women of Character Institute strengthened their commitment to Tri Sigma and their chapter. 4,600 GRANTED The Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI ) is a five day institute that brings together fraternity men and sorority women from across North America to create opportunities to explore, define, and enhance their leadership skills, personal awareness, commitment to their fraternity or sorority, and grow to expect values based action from themselves and those they lead. At UIFI, you will be given the skills to improve your own leadership abilities and positively affect your chapter, council, and community. Thank you so much for sending me to UIFI this year. I had no clue what I was getting myself into, but it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life! I have found myself and realized what this sorority is all about. I am a changed person and am ready to change my campus. I have been given an amazing opportunity that I will cherish forever. Thank you again and I hope to make you all proud. EMILY SCHNIER, ETA NU 98% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they are a better leader because of UIFI. 99% agreed or strongly agreed that UIFI deepened their commitment to fraternity/ sorority life. 99% would recommend UIFI to a peer. For the Tri Sigma who yearns to learn and live our mission, vision and values, the Labyrinth Leadership Experience provides a transformational, engaging and inter-generational experience for members to grow in their appreciation of the lifelong commitment associated with membership. I did not learn Tri Sigma deep down, the ritual and values, as a collegian. As I started volunteering as an alumna, I came to understand Tri Sigma that way intellectually. But after Labyrinth, I ve got it hook, line, and sinker in my heart. I want to share the true meaning of Tri Sigma with all those women who missed it in college, just like I did. Tri Sigma has given me the love, support, and opportunity to stretch that I could never find somewhere else. Labyrinth reminded me to balance my everyday life by living our ritual, and it taught me to stretch my soul. EMMY SMITH, EPSILON PI 100% felt they had a better understanding of Tri Sigma s core values and how they relate to their life. 83.3% strongly agreed and 16.7% agreed that they recognize the impact they can have on our world and how they can contribute to their communities. 100% have a renewed love and passion for Tri Sigma and my lifelong commitment. State Day Educational Speakers 1,500 GRANTED The Tri Sigma Foundation supports State Days by providing funding for educational speakers. In the Foundation helped to fund the educational speakers for Arkansas, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. These programs touched on a variety of topics, all engaging and inspiring those Tri Sigma sisters in attendance on life-skill development. TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 27

16 Individual Annual Donor Clubs and Giving Societies The generosity of our donors has positioned the TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION as a leading source of support for the educational and leadership programs of the National Organization, as well as the scholastic and philanthropic pursuits of its members. Supporting the TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION means investing in a thriving organization and our Sigma sisters across the world. Sisters who are focused on scholastic, leadership, and charitable pursuits; sisters who will change the world. We hope the programs, stories, and women in this annual report share the story of what you ve already made possible, as well as inspire your r enewed support this year, and for many years to come. The TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION thanks the following collegian and alumnae members, parents, and friends of Tri Sigma for helping us make a difference. Note: Listings reflect member status and gifts received July 1, June 30, I GIVE TO THE TRI SIGMA FOUNDATION BECAUSE IT IS A GREAT FEELING TO KNOW THAT I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF SIGMAS AROUND THE WORLD!
