This after the Gauteng High Court Division in Polokwane last week set aside the awarding of a multi- million rands security tender to Hlimbyi Trading Enterprise and ordered the Greater Tzaneen Municipality to re-advertise the tender afresh with immediate effect. The court also ordered that Kgosi Monene, not Hlimbyi continue to render the security services to the municipality until a new bidder is declared after due processes. The court decision means that the 125 security guards who were employed by Hlimbyi to man the municipal sites including the civic centre since the beginning of December are now without jobs. Some of the guards confirmed that they are now jobless and that they have not been paid for the three month and half months they worked. The owner of Hlimbyi Trading Enterprise, Audry Shiphalana could not be reached for comment. Hlimbyi was awarded R27 million over three years security contract in November last year by the former acting municipal manager, Obby Mkhombo in disregard of the recommendation of the municipality s bid adjudication committee which recommended that the bid be re-advertised to comply with required legislation and prescripts. At the time the tender was awarded its validity period had lapsed. The losing bidder Kgosi Monene whose bid was R2 million less, cried foul, accusing the municipality, particularly the former acting municipal manager, Mkhombo of running an irregular tender process and took the matter to court. The court found that the conduct by Mkhombo in awarding the tender to Hlimbyi was irregular, illegal and unlawful as well as being unethical. Although the court can not make a specific ruling that fraud was involved, it can nevertheless find that Mkhombo s conduct was not far from fraudulent conduct, said Judge Frans Kgomo. Judge Kgomo added that Hlibyi s acquisition of the tender was precipitated by reckless action on the part of Mkhombo. The municipality was ordered to pay the legal costs of the court application up to January 15 while Hlimbyi was ordered to pay the full costs by the court. The Greater Tzaneen Municipality spokesperson, Neville Ndlala said the municipality will abide by the court order and will in no time restart the process of awarding the security tender. We will also strengthen our supply chain management processes and ensure that necessary checks and balances are conducted, said Ndlala. 2 2 NEWS Be cautious of fraudsters THE public is warned to be cautious of fraudsters who use fake identification documents to swindle people and financial institutions of money. According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, in recent times, the police have received complaints from some members of the public who have fallen victim to the tricks of fraudsters. The fraudsters get access to your ID number and reproduce an ID book with their photos on, with this fraudulent ID book, they go to the bank and apply for a personal loan, said Ngoepe. They also access your mobile or cell-phone banking system and start to transfer your money to their bank accounts. Sometimes they will call you and promise you a quick personal loan if you do advance payment said to be for administration purposes and immediately you deposit this money, all their phones are no more accessible and they are nowhere to be found, Ngoepe said since April last year, about R has been lost in the Tzaneen cluster through fraudulent activities. Ngoepe advice members of the public not to pay any advance money for a loan, always keep ID book,card or number safe. Crime reports for the week Tzaneen: Police in Tzaneen have arrested 64 suspects for various criminal activities over the past week. According to Tzaneen police spokesperson, Constable Glenda Maimele, three suspects were arrested for common assault, three for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one for attempted murder and four suspects were arrested for shoplifting. Four suspects were arrested for theft, four for housebreaking, three for possession of dagga and one suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. One suspect was arrested for drunken driving, six for illegal trading, seven for prostitution and 27 suspects were arrested for contravening the Road Traffic Act. Bolobedu: Police in Bolobedu have arrested 83 suspects for various criminal activities over the past week. According to Bolobedu police pokesperson, Constable Rebotile shai, three suspects were arrested for murder, four for house breaking and theft, two for rape and two suspects were arrested for shoplifting. 15 suspects were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, three for common assault, two for business robbery and one suspect was arrested for common robbery. Two suspects were arrested for drunken driving, two for position of stolen property and one suspect was arrested for crimen injuria. One suspect was arrested for armed robbery, one for violation of protection order and 44 suspects were arrested for public drinking. Haenertsburg: Police in Haenertsburg have arrested 19 suspects for various criminal activities for the past two weeks. According to Haenertsburg police spokesperson, Constable Bongi Malungane, 17 suspects were arrested for contravening the Road Traffic Act, one for being in possession of dagga and one suspect was arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Modjadjiskloof: Police in Modjadjiskloof have arrested 13 suspects for various criminal activities over the past week. According to Modjadjiskloof police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kgamedi Seshoka, four suspects were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, three for possession of dagga, three for prostitution and three suspects were arrested for contravening the Liquor Act. Doreen Makgadile Moshape disappeared on March 3 from a traditional healer, Winnie Mkhavele s home in Ga-Kubjana where she was receiving treatment and training as a tradional doctor. According to her mother, Mapula Moshape, Doreen who is from Ga- Molepo in Polokwane is mentally ill and requires regular medication. Suspected murderer faces more charges A MAN accused of killing his girlfriend s nine-year-old girl in Medingen village, appeared in the Bolobedu Magistrate s Court on Monday. Mohale David Maenetja (24) who appeared on charges of housebreaking, kidnapping and murder was remanded in to police custody until March 23, for a formal bail application. Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the victim, Ria Letsoalo was kidnapped while she and her seven year-old brother were asleep at home on the night of March 6. When their mother who was away attending a funeral returned home the following day, she found the house has been broken into and the girl was missing. She alerted police and a search by police K9 Unit, crime prevention and detectives started, said Ngoepe. The suspect, Maenetja, believed to be the woman s boyfriend was arrested on Friday along the Modjadjiskloof and Polokwane road, trying to flee to Gauteng. He allegedly led the police to an isolated area in the bushes just outside the village where the victim s body was found in a shallow grave. Preliminary investigations found that Maenetja was wanted for a another murder, two assaults, theft, and two house breakings in Bolobedu area. Investigations further revealed that the suspect was previously convicted for the assaults and housebreaking. Deadlines brought forward the public holiday on Monday, April 6. The deadline for the weekend of April 25 will be on Friday, April 24 at 12:00 due to the public holiday on Monday, April 27. 3 NEWS 3 25 YEARS: Karabo Disire Lebea 25 YEARS: Lisbon Bonny Ndlala Armed gang sentenced THE Tzaneen Regional Court last Thursday sentenced two men to 25 years imprisonment for various criminal activities while their accomplice was sentence to five years imprisonment for theft. Jean Pierie Potgieter (24) from Tzaneen, Karabo Disire Lebea (29) and Lisbon Bonny Ndlala (32) both from Relela village in Bolobedu South, were found guilty of theft and each sentenced to five years imprisonment. Lebea and Ndlala were further sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each for armed robbery and another 10 years imprisonment each for carjacking which was committed at Ga-Makanye village in the Mankweng area outside Polokwane. There were also declared unfit to possess firearms. The court heard that on October 4 last year at about 19:20, Lebea and Ndlala high-jacked a white Polo Vivo at gun point. Two days later they committed a planned armed robbery with Potgieter in Tzaneen in which about R which was going to be deposited at the bank was shared amongst them and the three were arrested on the same day. Potgieter was an employee at a local diesel depot at the time. 4 4 NEWS Massive search for a missing girl A five year-old girl from Ga-Sekgopo Village went missing since she left home for school on March 3. The little girl identified as Rethabile Khota, attends Matswidikanye Primary School. According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe after the matter was reported to the police, they started searching for the girl using various police resources such as rescue police dogs from Politsi, Polokwane and Thohoyandou Clusters and a police helicopter at the village and surrounding mountains with no success. 5 COMMUNITY 5 LOCAL FARMERS: Farmers from around Tzaneen, Nwamitwa, Berlyn and Lenyenye at FABCO annual general mee ng on Thursday at Hotel@Tzaneen. FABCO annual meeting a great success THE Farmers Business Cooperative Limited (FABCO) held it s annual general meeting at Hotel@Tzaneen on Thursday. FABCO is a hybrid primary agricultural cooperative based in Tzaneen. FABCO was launched last year in March by farmers with a sole purpose of minimizing the costs of production and link farmers with high-end markerts. This is its first annual meeting. Acting MEC of Agriculture Nandi Ndalane was also at the meeting. The theme for the general meeting was empowerment of farmers through transformation of agricultural retail sector where various stakeholders where called in to talk to the emerging farmers. Land Bank and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries were among those who had a one on one with the local farmers. According to the chairperson Oupa Mathebula, FABCO is planning to open a warehouse at Nkowankowa for farm produce where fresh fruits and vegetables are to be kept for bulk sales and the warehouse will also be selling agricultural supplies to local emerging farmers. The MEC of Economic Development Seaparo Sekaoti and I have already instructed our senior officials to work with FABCO to ensure that the warehouse in Nkowankowa as proposed by FABCO is implemented in the 2015/2016 financial year said Ndalane. The acting MEC expressed her delight in the implementation of FABCO, we are indeed excited with the establishment of FABCO. For many years we had farmers complaining about the high cost of production and low prices they receive when they sell. FABCO demonstrated with figures and proposed the best solution to the problem added Ndalane. The day was indeed a success and the attendance was positive. Dis egter dubbeltyd vir die manne in uniform! Kyk of jy een van hulle op n Vrydagmiddag en veral oor die einde van die maand aan diens sien. Dan ry die taxis soos maniakke, stoptekens word geignoreer en sperstrepe beteken niks. Dis wanneer dit regtig lewensgevaarlik is om in die dorp en paaie om die dorp te wees. Die regter het ook gesê dat dié optrede nie ver verwyder is van bedrog is nie. Dit het tot gevolg dat honderde sekuriteitswagte nou sonder werk sit juis in n tyd van werkskaarste. Van ons dorp gepraat, soos in die brief op bl 6 gevra word: Kom elkeen van ons doen iets om by te dra dat die dorp netjies en skoner is. Study the New Testament MUKHANYO Distance in Tzaneen will be presenting an interesting module in New Testament studies in the coming weeks. During this module the following topics will be studied: How God revealed Himself in the Bible; The human authors of the Bible; What happened to the original Bible; Which books were taken to be part of the Bible and The truth of Jesus in the original Gospels. Students will be introduced to textual criticism and the authority of the Bible will be discussed. The module is part of the Mukhanyo Distance diploma course in theology, but students are welcome to enroll for a single module. All students who finish the module will receive a certificate of attendance. Mukhanyo Distance has more than 200 distance students in different countries in Southern Africa. Mukhanyo Distance enables students to receive relevant, high quality, holistic, affordable in-service distance training in theology. It provides biblically based training opportunities and facilities to church leaders for church and community development in Africa. The course also develops church leadership and administrative skills in order to inspire kingdom vision and to support the growth and development of churches. An important aspect is to equip leaders, office bearers and members of churches to correctly understand and apply the Bible in their own environment. The New Testament classes start on Friday April 11. New students are welcome to join. 9 COMMUNITY 9 Tzaneen Care Group brings hope, upliftment A bit of musical inspiration to add hope and upliftment was the basis of Thursday night s event hosted by the Tzaneen Care Group at Fairview s Convention Centre. Local farmer and gospel singer, Nico De Jager organised the well attended event. The event was held in memory of a young resident of Tzaneen, Juan Venter who lost his battle against cancer in December last year. Rigardt and Ingrid Linde, Dirk Venter, Wimpie Mostert, Marlie and Jansen van der Walt all performed at the function. The guests were addressed by the Tzaneen Care Group chair person, Yasmeen Moosa, guest speakers, dr Hercules Malan, oncologist and dr Gert van der Merwe, surgeon. Smit Garrun brought the Tzaneen Care Group to tears with a surprise donation of R which was most appreciated. A wonderful give back and show of social responsibility to the community.n The Tzaneen Care Group is a non profit company with limited resources solely reliant on the goodwill and generosity of the community within which it is based. Volunteers act as caregivers in that they offer emotional, moral and, where needed, acquire financial support by means of sponsorship for patients in need. The Tzaneen Care Group was founded in In recent years Tzaneen Care Group from fundraising initiatives as well as donations, has built up stock consisting of wheelchairs, hospital beds, egg box mattresses, commodes, walkers and crutches to name a few. All these items are on hand and ready to be lent to a patient or any other member of the community, where the need arises. The Tzaneen Care Group has its base for stock at Pioneers Park. Currently Tzaneen Care Group has 80 plus patients listed. Sadly the needs of the community relating to patient care have grown exponentially over the last few years. Their longest serving member, Magda Bootha, envisioned a new purpose for Tzaneen Care Group. Her enthusiasm was infectious and so began the quest to get a house and set up the Tzaneen Care Centre. An anonymous benefactor has donated a house, situated at 36 Maritz Street to Tzaneen Care Group will be home to the Centre. The Care Group in turn will be calling on and depending on the goodwill and generosity of the community, firstly to help renovate and equip the house to meet the needs of the patient and secondly to sustain the running costs of the house.. They would like to start a database of care workers that can be accessed by members of the community thus assuring people that the caregivers are qualified and competent. The Tzaneen Care Group is commited to continue fundraising efforts in order to achieve this vision by means of evenings such as these. The upcoming annual Ladies Breast Cancer Awareness High Tea at Unicorn Preparatory on October 31. In addition to which a team of 3 runners from Tzaneen, Shirley Stewart, Paul Zaayman and Anel Swart have committed themselves to run the Comrades for the benefit of Tzaneen Care Group. They will be approaching people to gain sponsorship per km and all proceeds thereof will be used for the Tzaneen Care Centre. Grandparents enjoy tea and entertainment at Unicorn MORE than 150 proud grandparents came together ther for entertainment and morning tea at Unicorn Preparatory School on Wednesday. School principal, ipal, Ian Houston, kicked off the proceedings by playing the bagpipes and welcoming each grandparent to this special event. We are celebra ng the milestone of 21 years as an independent school this year and most of the grandparents here were a big part of this amazing journey, said Houston. 12 12 SCHOOL NEWS President s Awards a huge success Mokgadi Raphala - mokgadi@herald.co.za THE President s Awards for Youth Empowerment held their Limpopo Bronze and Silver Award Ceremony at King s Court Christian School at Modjadjiskloof on Saturday. MERENSKY High School, Standford Lake College and King s Court Christian School are the three schools around Tzaneen that participated in the awards. THE President s Award for Youth Empowerment is a registered nonprofit organisation with Public Benefit Organisation status registered with the South African Revenue Services (SARS). Founded in 1983, under the banner of Gold Shield Award and in 1994 was re-launched as The President s Award for Youth Empowerment with Nelson Mandela as Patron-in-Chief. In its 31 year history the Award Programme has reached over young South Africans. Affiliated to the Dukes of Edinburgh s Award, which was started in 1956, The President s Award for Youth Empowerment is a full member of the International Award Association, which oversees Award Programmes in over 140 countries globally, with 25 of these being in Africa. WITH guidance from an adult Award Leader (teacher), every young person is encouraged to reflect upon their interests, abilities and ambitions and set themselves challenges to in four different sections of the award. Open to young people between the ages of 14 and 24, the award programme s basic structure consists of four sections namely community service, adventurous journey, skills development and physical recreation which can be achieved at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. THE day was a huge success with a very positive attendance. Parents gathered to see their children being awarded for the good work put in the award participations. IT started with a teacher called Kurt Hahn who worked with young people and believed that young people were becoming unfit, lazy, lacking initiative, lacking imagination, didn t develop skills, lacked self-discipline, and showed little compassion for others. This was in So he set schools which sort to address this. ONE of his students was Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh who set up the Duke of Edinburgh s Award in the United Kingdom in The awards recognize adolescents and young adults for completing a series of self-improvement exercises modeled on Kurt Hahn s solution to the problems of the decline of modern youth. KURT Hahn s family crest has the words there is more in you than think. And these sums up what the award seek to draw out of each of us that there is more in us, we just don t know it. CONGRATULATIONS to those who receive certificates today. To the Bronze award recipients don t stop. Make it a goal to get to silver. This is the time when learners will get the opportunity to enjoy training from the teachers and people from the community as volunteers, teaching our learners in the activity of their choice, such as: woodwork, food technology, needlework, metalwork, chess, crocheting, knitting, creative arts, arts, scrapbooking and mechanics. Last Wednesday the boys took part in their weekly training in mechanics. Modipa Mokwena visited the school as a volunteering mechanic, he showed the boys how things are done as a mechanic. The school would like to invite anybody from the public with a special skill and would like to take part in the volunteering team. She added that the circuit would not be where it is, if it was not for the dedicated teachers. Manzini also thanked the schools that made sure their learners attend morning and afternoon studies. You are doing a great job, keep it up, she said. According to Manzini the circuit has been performing above the national level for the past four years. The learners who were being celebrated were those who achieved between 70% and 100% for their subjects. The best performing learners in the circuit from public ordinary schools were announced as follows: Cheyeza Makhubele (Zivuko Senior Secondary School), Maakana Rosanne (DZJ Mthebule Secondary School) and Philly Maake (Magoza Secondary school). St Georges College s Sewela Mashele represented the independent schools in the circuit as the best learner. The top learners each received a laptop, trophy and a certificate. Cheyeza also received prize money of R5 000 from the circuit as she obtained the first position. Vossies are now playing chess BEN Vorster High School has a new and active chess club. THESE learners played a friendly tournament against Merensky High School and DZJ schools on March 14. 22 22 SCHOOL NEWS Absa Cape Epic QUALIFIER: Mfumo Mongwe, a grade 10 student from Stanford Lake College qualified during the Limpopo Athle cs championships to par cipate in the Na onals. Although Mfumo is U/16, he qualified at u/17 level for the 200m. He will be travelling to North West province where he will be compe ng from March. TEAM Stanford Lake College started the gruelling, world-famous Absa Cape Epic, a gruelling 7 stage mountain bike race covering over 700km of challenging terrain on Sunday. Initially two Stanford teachers, Rhoan Abbott and Steven Willson teamed up to ride for the schools outreach programme, the Dream an Do Foundation. Unfortunately Steven was injured on a training ride only four weeks before the event but luckily ex-stanford parent and local doctor Gary Middleton, a past Epic finisher, was available to step into the breach. The Dream an Do Foundation enables groups of less fortunate children to experience a week long programme each year at Stanford Lake College, where they are introduced to thinking skills programmes as well as various adventure sports such as, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Trekking and Mountain Biking. The programme also covers environmental issues and conservation and culminates with the students spending a day at the Kruger National Park. As outdoor sport s enthusiasts and educators, we have seen the benefits firsthand of outdoor education. Children who are pushed out of their comfort zones through adventure activities become more confident adults, and it is our aim to provide this opportunity to less privileged children in our local communities. Through riding this event, Rhoan and Gary hope to raise R for the school s Foundation. Some of the proceeds will also go towards the development and training of an Adventure Racing Team, which will then take part in the annual Adventure Race for schools. Die kompetisie het gesorg vir groot opwinding tydens die aanloop tot die SAproewe wat sal plaasvind op 27 en 28 Maart by die Hoërskool Florida. Vossie skuts wat deelgeneem het, was Thinus Vermaak, Tiaan de Jager, Renaldo van Rensburg, Hano Sliep en Rugert Schnell. Thinus het baie goed gevaar met 508, 526, 337= 1371 (9e posisie in die 0/21-ouderdom). Renaldo was die ster by die 0/16-groep en het goud gewen. Hy is ook vyfde in die algehele groep van 150 skuts met die volgende tellings: 519, 542, 334= Renaldo van Rensburg en Thinus Vermaak is daarom dan gekies om aan die S.A.-proewe deel te neem op 27 en 28 Maart Dit is n baie groot prestasie. Net 40 van die land se beste skuts word genooi.

Winter Sports vs Ellisras High School ON Saturday 14 March, the sports teams left Plasieland way before the morning star could even twinkle for the long journey to Ellisras. The Plasies did not surrender to the extreme heat, but persevered and gave their all in true blue blooded style. The netball girls battled fiercely to taste victory at the end, winning five out of eight games. Netball Results: (Merensky scores first) u.14a: 10-7 u.14b: 4-7 u.15a: u.15b: 4-17 u.16a: 3-18 MHS u.17a vs Ellisras 2nd: nd: st: The rugby boys showed their mettle also, winning five of the eight games. The girls defended courageously, once again proving that a Plasie never gives up. They drew the game with no goals scored. LETABA se eerstespan het hierdie naweek in die Assupol finaal teen Northam te staan gekom en het hulle, hulle swakste wedstryd in die laaste paar jaar ooit gespeel. Die span was lusteloos en die verdediging was skokkend en bittermin spelers het enige vasberadenheid gewys en was hulle slegs in liggaam op die veld. Letaba het vroeg voorgeloop met n strafskop van Gom Bvuma en is dit asof die span daarna net gewag het vir die eindfluitjie om te blaas. Northam het by hulle spelpatroon gehou en Letaba het glad nie skoongemaak by die losgemale nie. Die voorspelers in het die agterlyn gelê om soos senters te wil hardloop. Die agterlynspelers het een of ander onbekende wedstrydplan gevolg deur elke bal te probeer skop en of suinig te speel. Letaba het n liederlike pakslae van 33 3 op die lyf geloop. Die kanse was daar om drieë te druk, maar met suinige spel en swak aangee is talle kanse verbrou. Glen Mafumo was die uitsondering en het sy lyf op die spel geplaas. As daar net nog drie spelers was wat dieselfde toegewydheid gewys het, was die uitslag dalk anders. Letaba sal vinnig moet reg ruk want hulle speel Saterdag tuis teen die baie sterk span van Nelspruit. Letaba 1 en 2 speel 15:00 en 16:30 onderskeidelik en word hulle ondersteuners vriendelik uitgenooi om die manne in groen te gaan ondersteun en aan te moedig om hulle brouwerk van die afgelope naweek reg te maak. The competition attracted 8 teams in total and after week 3, the league was split into 2 categories, namely Open (top 4) and Plate (bottom 4). The Open teams retained their points to date, while the Plate teams restarted from scratch. Open section: The ZZ2 Men s Team played the 5th week against last year s winners, the Red Devils. Despite the Devils winning this last closely contested game, the ZZ2 Men s team won the tournament overall. Plate section: The Trophy Motors team had a narrow encounter against the Vrystaat team! Both teams ended on 16 points, but the aggregate shot difference between the two teams was 12 versus 8 shots! Well done and well played to all teams that participated. Great fun, food & festivities were enjoyed by all and the organisers look forward to the next league later this year! The club thank all the teams that supported the league, as well as the committee and club members who made the effort to make this a successful tournament. There hard hours and effort is highly appreciated.
