Thursday, April 7 REALTOR Appreciation Day Special Backpacks for Kids Fundraiser Once again, GTAR is kicking-off its fundraising efforts for Backpacks for Kids during REALTOR Appreciation Day. This year, there will be a special fundraising effort with a twist: You will be able to purchase $2 tickets for a 50/50 cash drawing so the more tickets you buy, the more money you can win, AND the help Backpacks for Kids! The winner will get 50% of the money collected, and the other half will go to support Backpacks for Kids. The winner will be drawn at REALTOR Appreciation Day, April 7. You do not have to be present to win. To buy tickets, look for GTAR members wearing bright green Backpacks for Kids t-shirt, or stop by the GTAR booth, or the F&M Bank booth. GTAR needs your support! No donation is too small or unappreciated! It s your generosity that makes this project a success! We can t do it without you! In the last five years, with your help, GTAR has raised $77,195 and provided backpacks filled with basic essentials to 1,500+ deserving children. The recipients are chosen through Family and Children s Services with whom we have built a strong relationship. They are very careful in selecting only the children who have the greatest need, and are so very grateful for our help. This year our goal is to raise $15,000 to provide 300 backpacks. Each backpack costs $50.00 and is filled with basic essentials such as socks, shirt, underwear, jeans, shoes, and toiletries. th Money needs to be raised by June 30 to allow time to purchase the supplies with Walmart, stuff backpacks, and coordinate the big pizza party in August when we distribute the backpacks to the kids. 5 April is Fair Housing REALTOR Fair Housing Declaration I agree to: Provide equal professional service without regard to the race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin or sexual orientation of any prospective client, customer, or of the residents of any community. Keep informed about fair housing law and practices, improving my clients' and customers' opportunities and my business. Develop advertising that indicates that everyone is welcome and no one is excluded; expanding my client's and customer's opportunities to see, buy, or lease property. Inform my clients and customers about their rights and responsibilities under the fair housing laws by providing brochures and other information. Document my efforts to provide professional service, which will assist me in becoming a more responsive and successful REALTOR. Refuse to tolerate non-compliance. Learn about those who are different from me, and celebrate those differences. Take a positive approach to fair housing practices and aspire to follow the spirit as well as the letter of the law. Develop and implement fair housing practices for my firm to carry out the spirit of this declaration. Month April 2011 marks the 43 rd anniversary of the 1968 landmark Fair Housing Act. Each year REALTORS recognize the significance of this event and reconfirm our commitment to upholding fair housing laws as well as our commitment to offering equal professional service to all in their search for real property. NAR embraces our country s racial and ethnic diversity and strives to make the benefits of real property ownership available to all. If You Suspect Discrimination Call the Local Board of REALTORS : Local Boards of REALTORS will accept complaints alleging violations of the Code of Ethics filed by a home seeker who alleges discriminatory treatment in the availability, purchase or rental of housing. Local Boards of REALTORS have a responsibility to enforce the Code of Ethics through professional standards procedures and corrective action in cases where a violation of the Code of Ethics is proven to have occurred. Call the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: Complaints alleging discrimination in housing may be filed with the nearest office of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or by by contacting them at Fair Housing CE Class - April 19 GTAR will be offering a fair housing class on April 9 with Kathryn Jones. 6 News from Around the State: Starting July 1, Midwest City rental property owners will have to start registering their homes as rentals with the city. In addition, they will have to designate a person in Oklahoma County whom the city can contact. RCA Education : Presenters during the 2011 Greater Tulsa Commercial Market Update said they re seeing more signs of improvement than they have in years. We ve moved past cautious optimism and into optimism, said Jared Andresen vice-chairperson of the GTAR RCA. The conference, held March 23 at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel, provided a look into the health and future of specific areas of commercial real estate including retail, office, land development, multi-family, and industrial. Keynote speaker, Chad Wilkerson, vice-president and branch executive, OKC branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, also provided an economic outlook, both nationally and locally. Sales Associate : A tour of downtown Tulsa is being planned for May 25. The Sales Associate is working with the City of Tulsa Preservation Commission to plan the tour and make it as relevant as possible. Stops at several downtown developments, along with a tour of one of the underground tunnels is being planned. More details will be forthcoming. RPML : The Residential Property Managers and Locators is conducting a survey to assist in evaluating the current offerings to property mangers. Check the Weekly Facts for a link to the survey. Community Relations : Plans and fundraising efforts for the 2011 Backpacks for Kids campaign are underway. The CR s goal this year is to raise $15,000 by June 30 to provide 300 backpacks.
