7 Market Overview New Lenox, Illinois is located in Will County, which is six miles east of Joliet and 40 miles southwest of Chicago, Illinois. The village benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns with which it shares the Chicago metropolitan area. New Lenox was first settled in the late 1820s. At that time, the area was known as VanHorne Point. In 1863, the area was renamed New Lenox after the newly formed township of New Lenox. In fact, the township was named after the town of Lenox, New York. On October 4, 1946, New Lenox was officially incorporated as a village. Some nearby attractions located in New Lenox include: Thunder Ridge Park, Frankfort Historical Museum, Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area, Illinois and Michigan Canal Museum, Des Plaines State Fish and Wildlife Area, Glady Fox Museum The village of New Lenox offers more than 35 parks and playgrounds.
