3 CE Package and Courses CE Courses NEW! Beginning January 1, 2017! New Mexico CE Requirements The Real Estate Commission increased continuing education requirements from 30 to 36 hours per licensing cycle. The most significant change was the institution of an annual, -hour Core Course requirement. The Core Course substitutes for the 8-hour Mandatory Course. The Commission also added requirements for licensees to take a -hour core elective in their areas of specialty during each licensing cycle. These areas of specialty include: Commercial, Residential, Vacant Land, and Property Management. Finally, the Commission put into place a requirement that all licensees include -hour of Ethics electives each licensing cycle. The requirement of 36 hours will be made up of a cumulative 12 hours of the -hour Core Course taken annually, the -hour core elective, and the -hour Ethics elective, all totaling 20 hours of the 36. The remaining 16 hours can be made up of any Commission approved courses. Licensees continue to be restricted to 10 hours of Training category courses. Qualifying Broker Requirement. All qualifying brokers must take the Qualifying Broker Refresher Course to renew their license every three years. This course does not give you any CE credit hours toward your 36-hour renewal requirement. Additional Requirements for all renewals. The New Mexico Real Estate Commission requires a background check on all applicants for Brokers license (new or renewal). Fingerprinting is a required part of the background check and is handled throught the Scan system administered by 3M Cogent. You must register at before you complete the live fingerprint scan for matching with a national arrest record database. You may find a full Fingerprint Source List for New Mexico Residents on the Commission s website at Continuing_Education.aspx Core Course This is the required annual course for New Mexico licensees. This course category is mandatory. Call or for schedule New Broker Business Practices (excluded from special package price) 10 Credit Hours $29 All associate brokers licensed for the first time on or after January 1, 2012, must have this course completed within their first year of licensure. This course covers the basics of establishing a real estate business to the successful closing of a transaction. 23, 2, 2, 25, 20, 21, 16, 17, 13, 1, 25, 26 26, 27 22, 23 18, 19 15, 16 Santa Fe 21, 22, 23, 2 Qualifying Broker Refresher Course (excluded from special package price) 0 Credit Hours $99 All qualifying brokers must take this course to renew their license every three years. Even qualifying brokers who are otherwise exempt from mandatory CE must take this course. This course does not give you any CE credit hours toward your renewal requirement Solar PV Value? Questions to Ask Can solar PV (photovoltaic) add value? You will explore the history of PV in New Mexico and understand how appraisers currently value PV systems. Learn how to address this growing segment in the industry and how to protect your clients from potential pitfalls. 9 Advanced Map Reading and Surveys for the Real Estate Professional You will learn through fast-moving, hands-on comprehensive coursework that covers map and survey reading, how to locate property lines from metes and bounds, and topographical maps. You will also become familiar with the use of a compass, engineers scale, longitude and latitude templates for mapping, GPS for the purpose of locating property, and the New Mexico Uniform Parcel Code system. Also approved for 8 hours of Appraisal continuing education. 5 Zoning: What Every Real Estate Broker Should Know Zoning, exceptions, variances what does it all mean? This course will provide you with a brief history of zoning and how it all began. Explore the zoning code, how it is applied, and the office that oversees the code. You will learn to identify zoning codes, determine what they mean, and interpret their bearing on your clients. Also approved for hours of Appraisal continuing education. 16 Anatomy of a Commercial Lease Commercial leases are long and intricately tailored legal documents. They reflect the intent of both landlord and tenant with respect to the commercial property. This class will provide you with a detailed summary of the principle aspects of a commercial real estate lease. You will explore lease sections, use provisions, maintenance responsibilities, assignment and subletting, insurance, and remedies. 16 & 29 & Anatomy of a Purchase Contract Learn the parts of a contract and their importance in this exciting program. You ll explore the proper purchase agreement, usage, requirements, and points to consider when properly preparing them. 2 8 Legal Descriptions and Survey Maps In this course, you will learn the basics of map and survey reading. You will understand the different methods of describing property, as well as where to find source information about real estate descriptions and locations. Also approved for hours of Appraisal continuing education. 8 5
4 Courses CE Courses Diversity Issues and the Real Estate Professional This course examines the role that various beliefs, such as Feng Shui, play in the real estate transaction. By having clients fill out a Needs and Wants Questionnaire, the client will have the opportunity to state any cultural beliefs that will influence the decision-making process. This class also challenges brokers to become aware of steering practices, which are illegal under the Fair Housing Act, and to know how to properly respond when a client asks to limit the housing search based on race or other protected class status. Finally, we will discuss working with multicultural clients from negotiating countries, where people haggle on everything from groceries to clothing to buying homes. The course category is training. 7 NEW! Fair Housing Law: The Next Generation This course will provide you with an in-depth analysis of the Federal Fair Housing laws and how these laws relate to the real estate professional in practice. The course includes updated and new case studies that demonstrate the real-world applications of fair housing law and regulations. The class also challenges brokers to be aware of the fair housing risks in managing rental property, including becoming aware of the new HUD guidance regarding assistance animals. The course will instruct brokers in creating advertising that is in compliance with the Fair Housing Act. We will discuss enforcement of the fair housing laws, the new civil penalties, and the crackdown onvoice profiling. 6 ANSI Square Footage Method of Measuring This course will show you the American National Standard and procedures to be followed in measuring and calculating the square footage of detached and attached single-family houses. It is the purpose of this standard to describe a method of measurement that will make it possible to obtain accurate and reproducible measurements of square footage in single-family houses. Also approved for hours of Appraisal continuing education. 19 NEW! Wildfire Risk in Real Estate 3 Credit Hours $ This class is designed to provide you with a detailed summation of current aspects of wildfire risk in real estate and the application of responsible real estate growth. This class will provide a view of the main elements that revolve around the constantly evolving complexities related to both commercial and residential responsible land use, positive environmental planning, and manageable real estate growth, as they apply to wildfire risk. 12 Carlsbad 20 NEW! Uniform Owner/Resident Relations Act This course provides an in-depth analysis of the provisions of the Uniform Owner/Resident Relations Act, including the obligations of both owners and residents. Learn the proper way to handle notices to tenants, how to properly handle deposit refunds and the step by step process involved in an eviction procedure. You will also learn the Act s requirements regarding disposition of property abandoned on the premises and what your rights are regarding right of entry. Avoid litigation down the road by learning your rights and responsibilities as a landlord. You ll learn where the money goes in a typical remodeling job, and how much is spent on kitchen and bathroom remodeling, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and more. These concepts will add value to relationships and prepare you to guide your clients in real estate development. 30 Artesia 22 Rules of the Real Estate Commission Credit Hours $79 This is your chance to gain a better understanding of the New Mexico Real Estate Commission.
