5 Project Summary BACKGROUND: LifeStorage proposes to occupy an existing office building to provide office suites for small companies or individuals to use as a startup space for their business in addition to self storage units. To market the office and storage space the applicant is proposing a real estate sign to be located in the same position that the existing for sale sign for the building is located. Per ordinance, real estate signs between 33.0 square feet and square feet must be approved by the Appearance Commission and are allowed to remain onsite until all space is leased/rented, up to a maximum of one (1) year. Time extensions for this size of sign have to reappear before the Appearance Commission to ask for extensions to the one (1) year time limit. POTENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD IMPACTS: The proposed sign is being located along a commercial corridor with restaurants and retail uses. The sign would not be expected to have a negative impact on businesses or adjacent properties in the surrounding area. 6
