After 2 miles turn right to Sutton and follow the road for approximately half a mile. The wood adjoins the road on the right. There is an entrance into the wood at point E on the sale plan but the best access is over the route shown with a broken brown line. This is through Portobello Farm from the Biggleswade Road. Please be aware of hazards within the woodland when viewing. DESCRIPTION Sutton Wood sits close to the village of Sandy. This historic town, dating circa 250 BC, derives its name from the old English meaning Sand Island. This is a character that has remained essentially unchanged. The gentle west facing topography of the wood provides an easy to traverse landscape either by foot or machine. There are several open tracks that divide the wood and aid access throughout. The species mix comprises mixed conifers and broadleaf crops including Scots pine, Japanese larch, birch, oak with small areas of sweet chestnut and beech. On the western side of the property is an area which was felled about 3 years ago. This was replanted with mixed broadleaves. The Scots pine is mature and has been well thinned. Should the purchaser choose, some felling may be completed subject to an application to the Forestry Commission for a felling licence. The southernmost part of compartment 2 is subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) imposed by Biggleswade District Council. A TPO protects the woodland from being cleared but normal forest operations are regulated by the Forestry Commission. The amenity uses of this wood are well served by its relatively secluded location and private feel. In the south-eastern corner of compartment 4b is a small but rather picturesque pond.
