2 Typical Site Acquisition & Relocation Timeline Approximately 1 ½ years to Complete Presentation of Proposed Preferred Site to Community Relocation Informational Meeting Present general relocation info to potential displacees & general timeline LAUSD Board of Education Approves Preferred Site Relocation Plan Interview by Relocation Agent Relocation plans are being developed and some owners/occupants and tenants will be interviewed to gather general information. At the same time, property assessments will be conducted for environmental testing and property appraisal. Approximately ONE YEAR Relocation Update Meeting Introduction of relocation agent; detailed presentation of relocation process Offers Sent to Property Owners (may vary on timeline) Notices Sent to Displacees/ Tenants Individual Benefits Interview by Relocation Agent Interviews with all owners/tenants to gather specific information they will use to determine individual benefits Relocation Benefits Are Calculated and Notices of Eligibility are sent to Owners/ Tenants Approximately 30 to 60 DAYS Relocation Update Meeting Identify concerns and provide additional info, as needed LAUSD Board of Education Resolution of Necessity 90 Day Notice All displacees will have a minimum of 90 days to move from the date the notice is issued Site Vacant School Construction timeline varies by school type Approximately 30 to 45 DAYS 90 DAYS 2

3 RELOCATION PLAN DRAFTED A RELOCATION PLAN MUST BE CREATED BY LAUSD TO DETERMINE THE AVAILABILITY OF HOUSING FOR POTENTIAL DISPLACEES RELOCATION EXPERTS HIRED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL STUDY THE POTENTIAL SCHOOL SITE TO DETERMINE NUMBER OF DISPLACEES THAT COULD BE AFFECTED AND THE COST OF POTENTIAL BENEFITS. YOU WILL BE ASKED FOR INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR CURRENT INCOME, RENT, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR DISABLED, ELDERLY, EDUCATION, WORK AND TRANSPORTATION. THE RESULTS OF THE RELOCATION PLAN WILL BE USED TO HELP LAUSD ESTIMATE THE COST OF THIS PROJECT AND WILL BE USED AS A BASIS TO DETERMINE BENEFITS FOR DISPLACEES 3

4 ACTUAL RELOCATON PROCESS BEGINS INTERVIEW RESIDENTIAL OWNER / OCCUPANTS INTERVIEW RESIDENTIAL TENANTS INTERVIEW BUSINESS OWNERS AND EXPLAIN DETAILS OF THE RELOCATION PROGRAM, INCLUDING INDIVIDUAL BENEFITS WHICH ARE DEFINED UNDER: California Relocation Code is governed by CALIFORNIA CODE 7260 A Displacee is someone asked to move because of a public project (including a new school). The code provides that Displacees are entitled to certain benefits and assistance including moving and relocation expenses. 4
