12 LOCATION OVERVIEW MOUNT LAUREL, NEW JERSEY An edge city suburb of Philadelphia, Mount Laurel hosts the Laurel Acres Park, which is known for its Veterans Memorial, fishing lake, playground, and large grassy hill which is appropriated for concerts in the summer and sledding in the winter. With two dog parks, a baseball league, and a soccer league, the township has no shortage of recreational opportunities. Students from Mount Laurel are eligible to attend the Burlington County Institute of Technology, a vocational and technical education center that meets the needs of high school and post-secondary level students at its campuses in Medford and Westhampton. Named for a hill covered with laurel trees, the township contains several notable historical landmarks, including General Clinton s headquarters, Evesham Friends Meeting House, Jacob s Chapel, and Farmer s Hall. Considered a strong place to set up business, Mount Laurel employees several economic development initiatives. Part of the New Jersey Clean Energy Program, financial incentives will be offered to business owners, allowing them to save energy, money, and the environment. The Small Business Loan Program and Route 130 Revolving Loan Program help small businesses in the area to thrive, and the New Jersey State Trade Expansion Program provides financial awards on a first-come, first-serve basis, to New Jersey eligible small businesses that are new to the exporting of goods. After undergoing massive population growth of 32.9% during the 90s, the township of Mount Laurel grew by another 4.1% from 2000 to 2010, but saw almost no growth during the five-year period between 2010 and 2015, putting its current population at an estimated 41,870.
