It is located 14 miles north of Chicago s downtown district and had a population of more than 27,000. Wilmette is considered a bedroom community in the North Shore region. It is known for its lakefront, tree lined streets, green street lanterns and brick streets. Wilmette has been ranked as one of the top ten best places to raise children in the U.S., according to Business Week.
