2 ST MICHAEL S CONVENT INTRODUCTION St Michael s Convent was built in 885 with additions and extensions added in the 960 s. The property is Grade II Listed - as is the adjacent Sacred Heart Church. The site benefits from an attractive mature setting, including peripheral trees, the Hermitage Stream and areas of open space. The site provides the opportunity for a distinctive residential development, designed around the major open space and the re-use of the core of the listed buildings and incorporating a significant amount of new build development. 3 ST MICHAEL S CONVENT LOCATION The site is highly accessible in both local terms for shops, schools and employment opportunities and in a regional context by reference to all modes of transport. Waterlooville lies between Petersfield and Portsmouth on the western side of the A3(M). The site is approximately 5 miles north of Portsmouth, and 0.5 miles north east of Waterlooville town centre, with its principle access direct off the A3 London Road. The site also has a secondary access off Hulbert Road (B50), and is conveniently placed for access to and from A3M/M7. Mainline railway stations are at Petersfield, Portsmouth and Southampton, ferries at Portsmouth and the Port of Southampton. Southampton International Airport is approximately 5km to the west, along the M7.

5 ST MICHAEL S CONVENT The site is subject to the policies of the Havant Borough Local Plan, adopted on 30 September 005. The site is an allocated Baseline Housing site and is included in saved Policy H3. of the Havant Borough District Wide Local Plan (September 005), with an indicative figure of 70 dwellings. As part of the Local Development Framework, Havant Borough Council adopted the Havant Borough Core Strategy in March 0 and this includes the vision and spatial strategy for the Borough until 06. The Borough Council are currently preparing a Development Delivery (Allocations) Development Plan Document (DPD) which will identify sites for housing, retail, employment, recreation and other uses. Public consultation on the draft DPD ended in January 0 and the Council are currently undertaking an initial review of sites. The Council have prepared or are currently preparing a number of Supplementary Planning Documents ( SPD ) which form part of the Local Development Framework and advice should be sought from the Borough Council in the first instance. A Draft Housing Supplementary Planning Document Housing was made available for public consultation between March and May 0. The site is subject to Tree Preservation Order 946. The site benefits from a Development Principles Document: Land at St Michael s Convent, off London Road, Waterlooville, Development Principles, May 0. The document has evolved following a series of pre-application discussions with various officers from Havant Borough Council. During such meetings, the site constraints and opportunities were discussed in detail in order to inform any prospective proposals which may come forward. However, it is not an adopted SPD. Please be advised that any planning proposal that does come forward will be determined on its own individual merits. In light of this guidance, it is considered likely that whilst the core Convent building and Sacred Heart Church will have to be refurbished and converted, it is anticipated the majority of the scheme will comprise new build residential development.
