Racinowski, Editor/Manager Saint Gabriel Celebrates Catholic Schools Week Beginning on Sunday, January 27th through February 1st, the Saint Gabriel community celebrated being part of the Catholic School system. On Sunday, we began the week with a family mass and followed up with an open house where families were able to see what students are working on in school. Monday was Parent/ Guardian & school staff Appreciation Day. Students wrote letters and cards to all those who make it possible for them to receive a Catholic Education. On Tuesday, the students brought their special person to mass and enjoyed a reception following mass. This was also Career Day and various family members & friends spoke to the different grades about their careers. Wednesday was a day to cuddle up and read. The students were able Mr. Morgan, Principal to dress up in their pajamas and guest readers came in throughout the day to read stories to the children. On Thursday, for Student Appreciation Day, the students received a surprise ice cream treat at lunch and the American Eagle Theatre Company preformed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat to round out their day. On Friday, the last day of Catholic Schools Week, teaches were treated to a lunch provided by the parents as part of Teacher Appreciation Day. Principal Ted Morgan stated, The success of Catholic Schools Week at Saint Gabriel Catholic School would not have been possible and so enjoyable without the dedication of our teachers and staff and the unwavering support we received from our families and community. Go Shamrocks! At the suggestion of the kindergarteners, first and second graders, Ted Morgan, Saint Gabriel's principal dresses up as a fire fighter on Career Day. Thank you to Fire Fighter Bob Goga, one of the day's presenters, for helping Mr. Morgan look the part of a firefighter. Canaryville Little League Final Registration Signups The Canaryville Little League is proud to announce that its 2013 season is here! After a successful 2012 season, we are looking forward to another exciting and energetic Little League season for all of our boys, girls, families, friends, fans, and neighbors! The final regular registration for this season will be held at the Boyce Park Field House (located at 704 W. 42nd St.) This Saturday(February 16th) from 11:00am- 1:00pm. Families can also sign up online 24/7 at their convenience on our website at: No payments are necessary to sign-up, as we have four designated payment days to give everyone extra time if needed. Payment days will also be held at the Boyce Park Field House and include late-registrations for players as well($10 late registration fee). Regular payment and Late-registration days will be held on: February 21st (5:30-7:00pm), February 28th (5:30-7:00pm), March 2nd (11:00am-1:00pm) & March 6th (6:00pm-8:00pm). The fees for the 2013 Canaryville Little League season are: $50.00 for Boys/Girls Pee-Wees Division (ages 3-4), $55 for our Boys/Girls Tee-Ball Division (ages 5 6), $100 for our Boys Minor Baseball and Girls Rookie Softball Divisions (ages 7-9), $100 for our Girls Minor Softball and Boys Major Baseball Divisions (ages 10-12) and $100 for our Girls Major Softball Division (ages 13-16). With our upcoming renovations, we will also be having a $10 per family raffle ticket, where each family can either sell the ticket and keep the $10, or keep the ticket to win the great prize! Tickets are will also be available in the back of church or at the Rectory, Events at McKinley Park Library The Chicago Public Library, McKinley Park Library at 1915 W. 35th Street will offer an introduction to computers workshop on Friday, February 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. Participants will learn computer basics: how to start a computer & how to operate the mouse & keyboard. This workshop is especially for seniors but everyone is welcome. Please call to register for this computer workshop. Younger Than Springtime to Meet Members are reminded that our usual monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 20th at 1pm. Santa Lucia School News Suburban and City Students Are All Part of the Puzzle The third and fourth grade students of Santa Lucia School and St. Michael School of Orland Park spent a day of sharing during Catholic Schools Week at the St. Michael campus. These intermediate level students connected on their similarities and their unique differences. Their teachers planned lessons that focused on culture and traditions. The children wrote original commentaries on how everyone has an interesting heritage that provides a sound foundation for growth. Each grade level worked on a piece of a huge puzzle. The puzzle piece displayed their ancestry and depicted one of their nationalities cherished customs. The final puzzle came together and stated, We are like a puzzle. We come in different pieces but we all fit together! We have a state subsidized hot lunch program which is home made in the school everyday. Safety at St. Andrew Lutheran School is of utmost importance. Our Parent Teacher League (PTL) organizes family events throughout the year such as: movie nights, skating parties, family sock hops, Mother s Day breakfasts and many other enjoyable activities. Meeting a child s physical needs is important to us as well. We are blessed with a gymnasium and make full use of it with daily recess and physical education throughout the week. Athletic activities at St. Andrew include softball (fall), soccer (fall), volleyball (fall), basketball (winter) and track & field (spring). The school day begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. Before and aftercare programs are available starting at 7 a.m. with the aftercare program going until 6 p.m.. St. Andrew believes that every child should have a great education at an affordable price.
