Summary What is Community Cashback? The Story So Far Examples of tenant led repairs and cleaning services. 18
What s it all about? 19 Based on principles of Tenant Cashback and Local Management Agreements Incentivises tenants who wish to play a bigger role in their local community Enables tenants who group together to manage small-scale local services and budgets in order to deliver better services Re-investing any savings back into the community
How does it work? Tenants group takes control over local communal service provided by landlord e.g. cleaning, concierge, gardening, one off repairs/works Landlord pays tenants group what it would normally cost to provide service If tenants group does it cheaper they can invest surplus into community improvements 20
Key features Recognised/formal and ad-hoc tenants groups Services costing less than 170,000 Tenants may provide service themselves, through contractor or own staff Landlord and tenants group enter into a local management agreement Intended to be quick and simple delegation with short timescales between starting project and going live. 21
Key features (cont) Voluntary no right to cashback Shorter, simpler agreement (no MMA) Tenant group may not need to incorporate ALMOs can have direct cashback agreement (with tenants) Aimed at Councils and Housing Association 22
Community Cashback Small Grants Programme Department for Communities and Local Government initiative Part of national programme to inspire and empower tenants supporting tenant empowerment contract TPAS and NFTMO to deliver NFTMO focusing on Community Cashback Small Grants of up to 3,000 available to help set up Community Cashback Agreements Technical support available 23
Story So Far Initial interest from tenants and landlords mainly around cleaning, gardening and minor repairs services. First Cashback agreement signed last week. Regional events for landlords and tenants planned for Autumn 24
