1 Code No: 1.9 Social Screening and Impact Assessment for Sub Projects A. Sub Project Description: Proposed Activity Walkability and Parking Improvements Lotus Road Implementing Agency: Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Sub project Description Lotus road starts from opposite the Hilton Colombo and the Temple and the Buddhist statue. After passing the overhead bridge of the Hilton hotel the unique buildings of the Treasury and the presidential secretariat are located with colonial architecture. The old parliament of Colombo is the present presidential Secretariat and the area also a part of high security zone of Colombo. Galadari Hotel which is also a five star hotel is located at the opposite end of the read section which has a distance at only 480 meters. Commencement Date : Completion Date : B. Justification of project design and alternative analysis: Improvements to foot walks have been planned to ensure free and safety movement for pedestrians Due to present poor surface conditions asphalt surfacing will be considered. As there is no parking facilities and to prevent illegal parking improvement for parking will be alone further street lighting and land scaling will be done to enhance greenery. If these activities are not taken up condition of foot walks will be lower. Will effect to the traffic congestion done in poor surface condition and will increase the travel time of road users and also course or accidents. C. Corridor of Impact: This road improvement subproject will address to enhance to facilities for pedestrians mostly who visit the temple hotels and administrative complexes. As there are no mobile traders and use the read improvements can be implemented without delay, but will have temporary disturbances to the large number of pedestrians during the construction period which will ultimately contribute to benefit a large population to the area.

If so for what period? 11 Have these people/ business who may suffer temporary loss of incomes or livelihoods been surveyed and identified for payment of any financial assistance? 12 Will people permanently or temporarily lose access to facilities, services, or natural resources? 13 Will there be any other temporary impacts? please describe Known Details as acquisition is not involved During the construction period only.
