The women moved up one spot this week to No. 4, while the men fell a spot to No. 5 Kimberly Williams will open her 2010 outdoor season this weekend as she will participate in the long jump and triple jump this weekend. Olympic Bronze Medalist Walter Dix will be in attendance this weekend as he will compete in the 200m dash and be available for autographs following his race. The Seminole women have four individuals ranked in the top 10 in the nation led by sprinters Candyce McGrone (200m) and Marecia Pemberton (100m) who rank third and fourth, respectively. Marlon Woods currently holds the top outdoor long jump in the country with his mark of at the FSU Relays. South Carolina UCLA Stanford Louisville Arkansas Tennessee North Carolina 24 With just a week until the ACC Outdoor Championships the Florida State track and field squads will wrap up preparations in the friendly confines of the Mike Long Track Complex as FSU will host the Seminole Invite April This is a great opportunity for some of our kids to get out and compete in front of the home crowd this weekend before ACCs, head coach Bob Braman said. Action will get under way at 4 p.m. on Friday with the women s discus followed by a night of distance events beginning with the steeplechase at 7 p.m. Saturday s field events will begin at 10 a.m. with the men s hammer throw as track action gets under way at 1 p.m. Double Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix will be in attendance on Saturday as he will participate in the 200m dash and will be available to sign autographs following the race. It will be great to have Walter back on campus, Braman said. And to have Maurice Mitchell competing against him will be fun to watch. Mitchell will compete in both the 100m and 200m and will be joined by Pablo Navarrete (400m) on the men s side in sprints action. A bevy of Seminoles will compete in the 800m run led by Darrin Gibson and Nathan Duby who both rank among the top 10 in the ACC. Mitchell and Navarrete will team with Gonzalo Barroilhet and Andrew Jacobs in the 4x400m relay, while Barroilhet will also compete in the 110m hurdles, pole vault, long jump, shot put and discus in preparation for ACCs. Travis Whitfield (hammer), Michael Putman (shot put), Ngoni Makusha (long jump) and Marlon Woods (high jump) will also be in action in the field events this weekend. It will be a big weekend for the women s distance group as several runners will be making either their first or second appearances of the outdoor season in anticipation of next week s conference meet. Pasca Cheruiyot, Pilar Mc- Shine and Amanda Winslow will all be competing in the 3000m Friday night. Nearly every pole vaulter on the Seminole women s roster will be in action this weekend as nine members of the Seminole squad will be in action led by Lizbeth Mabry who ranks second in the ACC during the outdoor season. Also in action will be Allyn Laughlin who also ranks second in the ACC in the shot put. Laughlin turned in her top performance of the outdoor season at the Mike Long Track during the FSU Relays.
